Boys' tennis finishes with one-loss record This year’s boys' tennis team was strong but not strong enough. They had an undefeated season until they met up with Chaparral. It was a tough, long match: the final score was 13 2-14l 2. They lost by only one point, but that one point cost them the zone title and a chance for their fifth consecutive state title. Clark s team lost six out of eight starting players last year: the two returning players were Darren Bre-see and Bobby Strimling, who teamed up this year for doubles in the individuals tournament and came out with the zone and state titles. Other strong players were senior Cary Payne and junior Kelly Brown, who played singles in the individual zone and state tournaments. The team will be losing only four players: if the players returning keep playing tennis. Clark should have a stronger team next year. Coach Robert Wilcox believes Tennis is a twelve month sport — you can't lay down your racket for a couple of months and expect to play as well as you did before.'' Boys Tennis. Kneeling: Todd Kobrm. Lady Chargers show pride in team effort The girls’ varsity basketball team did not have a season that was as successful as they had anticipated. They concluded the schedule with a record of 4-8. beating Bonanza and Basic once and Gorman twice. The team made it to the zone play-offs for the second year in a row: they met Western in their first game but lost 73-60. During most of the season Sue Murray, a 5'4 junior. led the team in scoring with a 20.3 average per game. Coach Theresa Conerly termed Murray a very coachable player.” Though she suffered injuries which took her out of play in the last games, she still gained All-Conference first team honors. Junior Sue Evans earned second team All-Conference distinction. Coach Conerly also praised the performance of Kira Strehlow. a sophomore who scored consistently and turned in a startling 21 points in the final game with Western in the zone tournament.
