FOREWORD In presenting the PANTHER to the students we have two contessions to make. First, this annual is not intended to 'iiii a long feit want, and sec- ond, it is not Jthe resuit at long years of study and observation. Rather the advisers, the editor, and the static have worked diligently to present as readabie and enjoyable a book as possible. The Staff wishes to express its appreciation to presidentJames P. Brawley for his faith in our ability to edit this publication, and to Mr. Paul G. King, whose cooperation has been a source of inspiration. The theme of the 1948 PANTHER may at tirst appear Unique. Upon ciosqer examination the reader wiii see that it is divided into three main divisions-THE PEOPLE . . . THE SPIRIT . . . THE PLACE. Each at these main divisions is in some instances subdivided, making 'For clearer readabiiity. This book is our life. It is intended to provoke reminiscence, because it is here that we have lived. This book-bears testimony to Clarkis scenic beauty, to her spirit, and to her people. We have caught her spirit, drunk from her beauty and become a parl: of her people. Though our duties have beeh ditiicuit but pieasurabie, we have presented this volume simply because we were elected to perform this duty. THE EDITOR
