PENNSYLVANIA 16301 (814) 676 - 6591 February 8, 1982 Dear Nursing Graduates: The Nursing Faculty has spent the last two years preparing you for this day, your graduation. The time has now come for you to discard the safe, sheltered environment of the student and accept the role and responsibilities of a graduate nurse. As a new graduate you will be challenged with situations and conditions that fall out- side the realm of any of your educational experiences. It will be necessary for you to combine the teachings of your Program and the judgment of your intellect in order for you to make the a ppropriate decision. As you enter the real world of nursing, you leave behind all the idealism of nursing education. This dichotomy of roles may confuse and confound both you and your nursing practice. It is very important that you remember that idealism is not all good, nor realism all bad. Both concepts and beliefs have their place in good nursing practice. It is my profound wish that as a 1982 graduate of Clarion State College Associate Degree Nursing Program, you will select the best from each and function in a manner which represents the highest quality of nursing practice.
