UBRARY CJJ ION STATE COULEG CLARION P- TABLE OF CONTENTS Dedication 2 Dr. Bond 4 Mr. Blank 6 Faculty 8 Graduates 20 Candids 28 Activities 61 Yearbook Staff 86 r DEDICATION « « BJ Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil. This statement typlifies the person to whom this 1982 Pathfinder is dedicated - DR. GLENN R. McELHATTAN. ' Respect ' is a word which describes the relationship between Dr. McElhattan and the students, staff and faculty of Venango Campus. Dr. McElhattan will be remembered for his warmth and compassion in dealing with all persons as individuals, and for being available to lend a listening ear or to provide sound advise for those in need. Dr. Glenn McElhattan, Professor of Chemistry at Clarion State College has taught at Venango Campus for the last fourteen years. He graduated from White Memorial High School in Knox, Pennsylvania, familiar to the community now as Keystone High, as one of the two valedictorians of his graduating class. As an alumnus of Clarion State College, he graduated with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Education. He continued his graduate work at Western Reserve University in Ohio and earned his Doctorate of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. We wish to thank Dr. McElhattan for the respect that he has shown to us during our educational experience at Venango Campus and for the valuable contributions he has made to our personal and professional lives. Thus, it is with our sincerest respect that the Yearbook Staff dedicates the 1982 Pathfind- er to - DR. GLENN R. McHATTAN CLARION STATE COLLEGE • WWL ClarioB. Peaas Irnns 16214 ,: ' j THE PRESIDENT To the Students of Venango Campus It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Venango Campus of Clarion State College . The Venango Campus of Clarion State College provides an intimate environment where students have close contact with the faculty and administration as well as each other. This relationship is one to be appreciated as it is not found in most larger college and university settings . It affords the student the opportunity to form close personal relationships as well as in-depth explorations of academic areas with an accessible faculty. However, no matter how comfortable the environment provided by the Venango Campus may be , success in academics can only be gained by discipline and effort on the part of the student. I hope that each of you will recognize the opportunities being offered by the campus and use them successfully and meaningfully along your career path. Sincerely, Thomas A. Bond President ' Ij g 7 m n H 1 1 r- p 1 i ' J ■j r ' 4 a VENANGO CAMPUS — CLARION STATE COLLEGE 1801 WEST FIRST STREET OIL CITY. PENNSYLVANIA 16301 (814) 676 - 6591 Dear Student, I hope that your time at Venango Campus has been a positive and meaningful one. The effect of college on personality is a profound one, although many of those effects are often not visible until much time has passed. The discipline of study, the exposure to different perspectives of meaning, the technical skills of critical thinking, formal analysis, and evaluation within different subject areas, do to a larger or smaller extent effect all who go to college. To some degree, college makes people aware of major concepts like complexity, order, disorder, organization, ambivalence, standards, purpose, ideals, the infinite and the finite. While all of us create our own model of existence, and give quite different weights to these concepts, all of us who have been exposed to them have the potential for creating a personal perspective of existence which is rich and rewarding. If the only major result of going to college were an increase in curiosity and an increased awareness of the complexity of individual and social experience, that would be sufficient. But 1 suspect that in the long run, most people who gain a college education achieve more than enriched insight; they achieve a sense of direction, a desire for continued growth, and an inner feeling for the richness of emotions which a varied and active life offers. It is my sincere hope that you have begun this self-development at Venango Campus. Sincerely, Charles Blank Administrative Head FACULTY PAULA AMROl Instructor Music LEONARD M. PENNSYLVANIA 16301 (814) 676 - 6591 February 8, 1982 Dear Nursing Graduates: The Nursing Faculty has spent the last two years preparing you for this day, your graduation. The time has now come for you to discard the safe, sheltered environment of the student and accept the role and responsibilities of a graduate nurse. As a new graduate you will be challenged with situations and conditions that fall out- side the realm of any of your educational experiences. It will be necessary for you to combine the teachings of your Program and the judgment of your intellect in order for you to make the a ppropriate decision. As you enter the real world of nursing, you leave behind all the idealism of nursing education. This dichotomy of roles may confuse and confound both you and your nursing practice. It is very important that you remember that idealism is not all good, nor realism all bad. Both concepts and beliefs have their place in good nursing practice. It is my profound wish that as a 1982 graduate of Clarion State College Associate Degree Nursing Program, you will select the best from each and function in a manner which represents the highest quality of nursing practice.
