fLSS January 21, 1980 Dear Students: Another academic year has raced by, and I hope that for each of you it was a successful and meaningful period in your hfe. Doubtless you experienced great pressure as you tried to balance the demands of col- lege with the demands of the personal and social aspects of your life. But, modern education, like modern religion, too often tries to project a hip image which promises easy answers and pleasurable experiences, in exchange for minimal effort. Most of us, however, learn by painful contact with reality that very little that is worthwhile can be gained without great effort, discipline, and personal sacrifice. We might wish that this were not the case, but deep down we know that it is. Venango Campus provides an environment in which the need for personal sacrifice is to some extent compensated by the beauty of the foothills and the Allegheny River, and by the personal warmth of a close- knit student body and an accessible faculty. Venango Campus is a nice small college where students have the opportunity to explore personal relationships as well as academic subject areas. For those of you leav- ing us, I hope the future holds opportunities for both personal and career success.
