You have met the first great challenge of life by being num- bered among those whose reward at this time is to re- ceive a diploma. Mr. M. M. Collett To Members of the Graduating Class: The educational harvest season has arrived once again. W'ithin the pages of the yearbook are listed the names of those who have labored for the past twelve years through elementary and secondary school and have suc- cessfully completed the requirement for graduation from high school. Many members of this class have made out- standing records both in scholastic achievements and extra- curricular activities. We hope that your schooling has given you a sound educational background and will serve to inspire you to greater educational achievements, thus enabling you to achieve a better and more productive life in your efforts to serve and improve the welfare of mankind. Remember that your school will always be willing to help you as much as possible by sending transcripts of your school records and recommendations to interested officials and institutions. We at Clarion-Limestone School will always be eager and pleased to hear about your future successes. special achievements, and honors. Please accept our heartiest congratulations and best wishes for your future success and happiness. -gxse.m.,,...a.,. F ...i- Q- 6 Mr. Calvin Startzell Twelve years ago you began your first grade at the Clarion-Limestone School. You are the first graduating class at Clarion-Limestone that started your school life with an elementary principal. During these years in school, 1 have observed your educational progress from grade one through twelve. You and I have seen many changes take place during these past twelve years. When you began your first grade in the fall of 1957, Sputnick 1 circled the earth once every 95 minutes at the speed of 18,000 miles per hour. ln December of 1968, five months be- fore you graduated, three American Astronauts circled the moon at a rate of 24-,200 miles per hour. In 1969, the year of your graduation, you will probably see astronauts landing on the moon, which would be another big step in our educational system. The opportunities are great, so as you leave Clarion- Limestone, 1 hope you will be able to go to higher learnv- ing and continue your education. Set your goals high, try to achieve them, and your reward will be great in the end. Our cherished memories include the trials and tribulations of our many selling projects which includ- ed everything from ball point pens to magazines. Of course, one of our greatest memories is our Junior prom based on 'iCame-lot. Many hours of work went into making it a success. This year C-L had its first ex- change student, a pretty and lively girl from Sweden. We were fortu- nate to have i'Amy,, as a member of our class! None of us shall ever be able to forget our fun-packed Washington trip. Our feet still ache from all that walking! Our thanks again to those patient chaperones and also to our senior advisors Mrs. Corte, Mr. Kahle, and Mr. Grassel who were so helpful during the year. Yes, as we look back at some future time to our days at good ole' C-L, we'll realize how happy and rewarding they really were. Karla Nlaxine Aaron Hose Ale-ne Ansel Margaret Irene Beers Us-lmomlm J. Ann- Margaret Yngve I am Ann-Margaret Yngve, a regular, red-haired girl from Falum, Sweden. l am an exchange student at C-L this year, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Clarion. ln Sweden, everybody calls me Amy. There l goto a school 110 years old. lVly school offers five study linesl' comparable to College Prep here. The teachers in Sweden are more formal with the students than teachers here. Grades 10 to 12 are not compulsory in Sweden, and the courses in these grades are more like college courses. In my country winter sports are more popular, like skiing and skating. We have basketball, but not football and baseball. When games like soccer are played between schools, there are seldom specta- tors and we have no cheerleaders. Ifl should compare the kids of Sweden with those here in the L'.S., I feel that in the US. people are much more informal and friendships are formed more quick- ly. C-L fand high schools in general herel have more activities during the day than in our schools. School activities in Sweden are held in the evenings after classes and we don't have too many school clubs. Clubs and discotheques are very popular to go to Friday and Saturday evenings. Fashions in Sweden are mostly the same as here, except that we wear shorter skirts, and national cos- tumes, which differ from district to district, are worn on special holidays. At the end of this term, I plan to tour the West for three weeks, then return to Sweden for another year of high school. I have liked this year at C-L very much, everyone has been very friendly and helpful. l can say that this year is one of the most important in my life. I hope to come back to visit you some time in the fu- ture. l wish you all good luck for a successful future. We know Amyis visit to the LQS. will bring her some prestige when she returns home, for she will be owning the only C-L cheerleading jacket in Sweden! We hope, sincerely, that she will enjoy the rest of her stay and will return to the U.S. again someday. This year another unique situation presented itsell4there were more sophomores 113011 Larson, Rick Simpson, Handy lieadhetter, Rich Caldwell, and Randy Neillj than there were juniors tRandy Alderton, jim McCracken, Kevin Fitzsimmons, and Mike Leatlhetterj-and three ol' the sophomores were starters. Highlights ofthe season include: the last- seconml victory at East Forest, the convincing win at Keystone, and tl1e upset victory at Clarion. Because the team has gained valuable Varsity experience, Clarion- 1,imestone can expect a championship team within the near future. V a r s lty This year'sJunior Varsity, with their 11-11 record, had a season full of disappointments and triumphs. They had several sickening last-s e C 0 n d losses, but they also had some tre- mendous conie-from-behind victories. Hopefully the jVis of 1968-69 will have gained enough experience to step into Varsity positions and improve the depth of the Varsity squad. Our win-loss record against Class A schools was 2-3 as we twice defeated Dubois, lost to Franklin twice, and Oil City once. Highlighting the season, however, was the convincing District IX, Class B, victory at the Dubois Country Club. Members of thr trophy winning team of Coaches Pthoadcs and Williams were Dan Williams, Dale Brow'11l1-1-, Dan Neiswonger, Chuck Nlahle, Chris Gray, Randy Alderton, jim McCracken, Crist Wenrier, Bruce Gross, Blaine Stahlman, Randy Neill, Rick Simpson, Paul Cray, and Bob Sherman. Duc to the absense ofthe se- niors, undcrclassincn who went to the State meet at Penn State were Randy Alderton, Jim lVlcCracken, Paul Cray, Randy Nt-ill, Crist Wveiiiwr, Bruce Cross, Blaine Stahlman, and Bob Sherman, alternate. Because ol' these men, C-L can be certain of an excellent cross-country team for the next several years. Two of the losses came at the hands of Class A, non-league opponents fDubois and Brookvillej, and the defeat at Karns City was a direct result of the loss of the two-mile relay, the only dual meet loss of the season. Also, the team was composed of underclassmen, with the exception of four seniors regularly supplying points Triumphs ofthe season included: fifth place school at the County meetg a first place two-mile relay at the lndiana lnvitationalg and the second school at District. At District, five men qualified for the State meetg they were trackmen Ron Alderton, Gary Miller, Dan Williams, Chuck Mahle, and Dan Neiswonger. Because we return with almost all our positions filled with experienced performers, we expect to have the finest track team in the area.
