Dedication In 1965, Mr. Fred C. Barrett retired from teaching. When he left, he took with him an excellent record, as well as the love and respect of everyone who knew him. In his field, music, Mr. Barrett is one of the best. Behind the simple phrase, Certified in Instrumental Musicf' lies more than iifty years of experience in all fields of music. In 1914 he first started band work, and he stayed with it until 1921 when he became a private music teacher. In 1940 after twenty years of private teaching he began to teach in the public school at Sykesville. After teach- ing there for four years, he went to Brookville, where he taught for four more years. Then, in 1949, he came here, where, for seventeen years, he gave untiring service to the students and the school. He was no ordinary teacher, for he took up where others left off. In his classes, he taught more than the mere knowledge of music, he taught the feeling and love for music better than anyone else could. If any student wanted help or showed great interest, Mr. Barrett was ready to do all that he could to teach him more. During the summer months, under his direction and the time that he gave, our school band became well-known throughout our area as well as in Ohio. Often he would take the band to concerts in Pittsburgh on his own time, sometimes, coming home from an engagement, he would buy lunch for the band with his own money. In recognition and sincere gratitude for his dedication and loyalty, the class of 1966 hereby dedicate this yearbook to a great teacher, Mr. Barrett. 2
