DRIVER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT The Driver Education Department, un- der the direction of our new instructor, Mr. Hand, assisted by Mr. Raymond Smith, aimed toward teaching the students driving skills. The class of 80 gained knowledge in these skills by the many films and through experience on the highway. The main goal of this department is to teach the impor- tance of traffic safety to all who operate an automobile and to reduce the number of traffic accidents. HEALTH DEPARTMENT Our Health Department is headed by Mrs. Margaret Love. She has been busy not only with her regular duties in the ele- mentary and high school, but also as advisor for the Future Nurses. The T. B. Mantoux test is administered annually to the tenth grade with an X-ray if necessary. Physical examinations are conducted for those con- nected with sports as well as for all juniors. The Health Department encourages good physical and dental health. SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT The objective of this department is to challenge each student with training and experience in the field to which he is best suited. This necessitates individualized in- struction. The two basic programs in effect this year have been the craft program and the school work program. By taking advantage of what is offered the students train for their future in these and related Helds. As needs of the students change, the program, being flexible, also changes.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT The Physical Education Department was greatly expanded this year with the addi- tion of new gymnastic equipment. The first semester both boys, and girls, classes spent improving motor skills by working on the parallel bars, horse, rings and other appa- ratus. The second half of the year, Miss Blakeslee and Mr. Metcalf organized and instructed the students in intramural and team sports. LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT The Language Department presently of- fers courses in English, Spanish, and Latin. Four years in English are required for each student with an additional College English course for the college bound. Latin is taught in ninth and tenth grades to those preparing for college as well as an elective. Spanish is taught in fifth and sixth grades and also for three years in high school in grades ten through twelve. Current plans concern the addition of a new language, probably French, to the curriculum by the Fall of 1966. This Department stresses the continual use of good grammar in everyday conversation as well as in formal writing and speaking. SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT Knowing about the world's history is a very important part of our lives. For this reason, social studies are required for the four years of high school. This department is comprised of several courses including Civics, Pennsylvania History, American and World History, Problems of Democracy and American Covernment. They are taught by Mr. William Kahle, Mr. Albert Porter, Mrs. Norma Bowersox, Mr. William Hand, Miss Margaret Aaron, and Mr. Frank Augustine. As we study the problems and growth of past generations, we develop a better un- derstanding of our present generation and its problems.
