I I I I , , , H411 To The C'lramp1onA The Claruon Lumestone Luons roared unto theur T954 55 basketball season wuth determuna tuon to change the status of the team from a per ennual underdog to that of a threat The first two vuctums were ruppecl apart without too much re sustance to the Luon Basketeers Franklun proved a luttle too much for the fighting Luons on Friday but on the following Tuesday the Gold 81 Blue warriors traveled to Franklin to avenge the ear luer back set Starting a new serues the roaring luons trav eled along the victory road through the months of December January and the biggest part of February before finally being trapped on theur home floor running up an impressive strung of straight vuctorues Durunq thus stunt the C L gladu ators of the court established quite a number of new records for the school For the first tume un the hustory of the school C L has defeated East Brady on Brady s floor and then capped the clu max by beating East Brady for the second tume at home The roaring Luons of CL practically annuhulated the Claruon Bobcats on the Claruon State Teachers College floor un January but our Luons were humbled un February by the same team which they had so easuly handled before Someone was going to pay for the muzzlung of h Lon of CL North Claruon came nosung around and was soundly trounced by a resound ung score of TOO to 66 Thus was another record for the school as the Luons were the only team un thus area to score TOO pounts un a game thus sea son and the first tume that thus score had ever been reached by a C L team un uts hustory As the season begins to fade away the stu dents of C L can pount wuth prude to theur gladu atcrs of the court Haul to the Champions Wuth 'I9 vuctorues and 2 defeats the Luons now are traunung to take on other foes and carry the colors of Gold and Blue beyond the boundarues of Clar uon County unto state competutuon The Junior Varsuty also came un for theur share of glory by sharung the crown wuth Claruon and East Brady un the Junuor Varsuty champuon shup of Claruon County Our team owes much to uts Coach Mr Knowles He has worked wuth the boys fauth fully and has always dusplayed great confidence un them and constantly sets an example of good sportsmanship At the close of thus season we sadly bud adueu to such stalwarts as Stanley Stohlman Donald Fink William Hileman Jack Miller Ron- ald Miller David Burnham Lancy Theiss and Jerry Skidmore. Our vocal department, under the supervision of Miss Helen Muha, has a large Girls Chorus and a Mixed Chorus. We also have a Mixed Ensemble consisting of six girls and six boys. Sixty girls gave a Christmas Cantata in December, 1954. This production, entitled 'IChilde Jesus by Clokey was outstanding in the history ot the school and was much appreciated by the stu- dent body andthe patrons of the school. The Band and Orchestra, under the baton ot Mr. Fred C. Barrett, Otters varied opportunities for instrument lovers. Here again, we remember outstanding occasions in the year's musical activities. As they first explore these waters they are taught safe and accurate use of hand and pow- er tools by the capable Lieutenant Commander Stewart. Thus the ship is steared into calmer waters. While on the voyage they learn the appre- ciation of good design, good craftsmanship, sportsmanship, and quality in manufactured products. They gain the experience of having worked and participated in co-operation with their fellow shipmates and superiors. As the years go by, they are given a rating and the missions get rougher. Now as seniors these boys proceed on their mission attempting many maneuvers to help them plan their future. They are introduced to a frontier of plas- tics, wood working, metals, designing, drafting, welding, and construction. Thus, the voyage is completed and the ship is safely brought to harbor.
