The vear of nrneteen hundred and forty three was an rmportant year It was the vear we entered rn the navv of Clarron ornt Schools It was r wcar of tremendous change for us bec ruse we hat d to leaxe our parents but vet we knew rt w rs trmc to make somethrng of orrrselr s Ont d rv whrlc passrng the post ofhcc we saw a srgn that sud om the Navy rnd see the world WVhen vue rnqurred we found that bv errlrstrng we could garn a complete element rrv and hrgh school educatron Thrs wrs for us After we enlrsted we were made Apprentrce Searnen and assrgned to krndergarterr Thrs was the year that we first became rcquarnted wrth our shrprnates of today We found that we had to follow a rrgrd schedule of reportrrrg 180 days 1 werr to learn our basrc trarnrng Thrs rncluded learnrng to cooperate wrth others learnrng to tre our shoes and use our hands rn burldrng thrngs We also found through manv trvrng experrences that we could lrve Wrthout our parents for a fevs hours a dav Next vear we were rssrgned to Frrst Grade XVe reallv had to buckle down XVe learned to read wrrte and do srmple rrrthmr trc problems Then came Second Gr rdc when we applred our new trlcnts rn trkrng books out of the lrbrars and workrrrg rn our first arrtlrrnetrc workbook spell NVrth our assrgnment to Thrrcl Gr rde crme the sublcct of hrstorv Although rt drdn t teach us how to sarl a shrp we studred h rrd becaus thcv s rx that man profits bv rrewrng hrs past mrstakes In nrneteen hundred rnd fortv sex en we were promoted to Seamen S cond Class and placed rn Fourth Grade Thrs rs the xear we staved after school to h lp erase the blackboards rnd we put on a stupendous puppet show In Frfth and Srxth Grades we remember our vrsrt to the Countv Home and th fun we had lc rrnrng the X rrgrnra Reel rn the college gvm Thcn came one of our brg v ars VVe were frnallv prrt on board the S S Clarron Iunror Ilrgh Everx thrng was drfferent YV had drfferent teachers for each subject and recess was taken from us NVe were promoted to Seamen Frrst Class We learned what the word homework really meant Some of us went out for sports others for band Lrfe was hectrc as Captain Stev ns showed us how to trke care of the shrp We were able to take prrt rn the goxernrng of orrrslves through the student corrncrl YVe at t nded our first school dance rnd because ue hadn t ourte got our se r legs x et we looked prettx us kw 1rd Erghth Grade was pr rctlc rlly the s rmc as seventh except rt surelx was fun to look dow n on thr vorrnger ones who had trken our pl ru CA-wa Maier?
