After a year of wa1t1ng and eager annctpauon the dream of a new gymnaswm was flnally ful hlled The add1t1on whlch contams the new home economlcs room, muslc room, and shower rooms was started 1n Aprtl, 1956, and was put mto use early thls sprmg The blllldlflg was deslgned by Edwards and Burns and was btult by the Marlon Constructxon Company at a total cost of S131 180 O0 This was pald for by the sale of school bonds Smce the new addmon was btult for more room, plans have been made to bulld a study hall and hbrary mtheold gYI1'11'l3Sll11'I'1. Wrth the same thought U1 nund the laboratory and old home economlcs room were Jomed together to makea larger laboratory whrch has been equipped w1th new matenals The new gymnaslum IS equlpped w1th foldmg bleachers and glass bankboards and the home economlcs room has new ranges, a new refngerator, and a washer and dryer Those who can recall the structural appearance of dear old Clandon' only twelve years ago w1ll agree that lt'S much dlfferent today than xt was then, l. A number of projects were sponsored for this purpose. Some of them included: concessions at the football and basketball games, magazme sale, sale of Chnstrnas cards and stauonery, and bake sales. These were successfully directed by the business managers, Paul Klinefelter and Gary Fields. The members of the class presented the play, Rest Assured . 3 'mee ICI COITISUY. on March 29. Tlus was directed by Mrs, Frances Strine, class 3,dV1S61'. A class party followmg the play was held at the home of Gene Zachman. The Juruor class entertained the senior class on May 17 with a banquet and dance at the Hotel Hardmg. Grlfmh' Blu Hough ufh ul Dave Schiefer Our marching band, composed of forty members, performed at all Claridon's football games, both home and away, and marched in five parades, On November 9, 1956, the band was invited to march at one of Harding's home games. The concert band, composed of sixty members, has had a very successful season. Two concerts were givei, one for a Booster Club meeting and one for the spring festival The band also performed at all C1aridon's games during the basketball tournament in the Coliseum Contest time, the highlight of the year, again brought honors to Claridon as the band won top honors at the district contest in Bascom and took a superior rating for the third time in succession at the state contest held in Ashland. The high school chorus ventured to the contest this year for the first time. They received a superior rating at the district contest and an excellent rating at the state contest.
