'1'Hatf9 'WHat friends Eire for UAL BALL KING - MARK GUMM QUEEN - SIMIN ALI-AKBARIAN Clarendon's tlth Annual Ball was held on April 4th this year. Before the dance, the coronation of the King and Queen was held in the amphitheater. The evening was lovely and teachers, parents, seventh and eighth graders attended. Last year's King and Queen, Brian Foutz and Tracy Hohs were there to crown the new King and Queen. The selection of the King and Queen began when each junior high teacher was asked to choose three students whom they felt deserved to be a candidate. A list of ten boys and ten girls was drawn. The eighth grade students were then asked to vote for two boys and two girls. The results from this voting helped to narrow the field down to five girls and five boys. Nine unbiased junior high students were chosen to pick a King and Queen from these ten candidates. This year's King and Queen are lvlark Gumm and Simin Ali-Akbarian. The dance was a semi-formal affair which was held in the cafeteria. Dr. Lutkemeier took pictures of groups in the gazebo and hors d'oeuvres and punch were served. The Annual Ball originated eleven years ago. lvlr. Franks was teaching journalism and the Clarendon Tops staff wanted to publish a yearbook. To do this, they needed money. At this time a Valentines Dance was held every year. So, the journalism class asked that the Annual Ball replace the Valentines Dance. lt was approved and thats how the Annual Ball started. At that time, the King and Queen were chosen by the journalism class. The Annual Ball was not even photographed. Now thats really different from the 1986 Annual Ball. All in all, Clarendons 11th Annual Ball was a great success lt will be remembered by all who attended. 7th Grade Attendants Jeremy Grimwood Tami Ficsher ,fi O ,O ft' 9 ,604 9 2 4 j 4
