THE SAGA PRESENTED nv THE SENIDR CLASS CLARENCE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL or 1957 or -3 S N V -s ,v'... , .ri .i-I-. .. .-.:--s-- zrs-rsaizggfszzzlff-' A saga is a collection of tales from the sea. For this reason, we, the Class of 1957, chose a nautical theme for our Saga. Although the future seems re- mote and obscure, we have leamed many principles during our years at Clarence High School which will guide us as we chart our course toward distant hori- zons. Our annual is thus a log of events fo th r e past year which we have correlated with pertinent sea- faring symbols. We, the class of 1957, were the first 7th grade to drop anchor in this building and com- plete our high school years here . As Freshmen, under the capable leadership of our president, Sharleen Brushaber, we began our money-mak- ing campaign by managing the school store . Our first big class dance, the Frosh Frolic, had everyone talking about our theme, Ebb Tide The title of Sophomores, with john Roneker as president, gave us greater confidence in our Senior high school career. Our Soph Hop found everyone Swinging on a Star. Gene Smith showed our class his athletic potentialities by being a part of our undefeated varsity football team . At the beginning of our junior year, john Roneker again took office as president . john Roneker and Judy Wade were crowned king and queen in our Oriental Garden. Our junior Play, Men are Like Streetcars, had everyone laughing at the hilarious episodes of our teen- ager, Maudie, portrayed by Connie Stark. Our classmates honored us by receiving many a- wards . With the dawning of our last year, the class elected Gayle Lewis to guide them through this year. Plans were immediately made for our dinner dance at Transit Valley Country Club. Our magazine sales added to our treasury bal- ance with Bob Lenz achieving the honor of top salesman. The Saturday paper drives provided an exciting as well as a profitable time . This year proved to be very busy especially when practices began for our Senior Play, Letters to Lucerne Mistletoe Magic at our Christmas Dance provided an enchanting time for everyone . Gene Smith and Gayle Lewis were crowned king and queen . As our well-guided course through C.C.H.S. has come to a close, we realize that we are once again about to raise anchor and trim our sails for the unknown course of the future . 16 Letters to Lucerne. ,Alf Gayle MARGARET GAYLE LEWIS A dlamond Ln the settzng personulzty Major Scrence Latln Ambmon Attend Unlverslty of Buffalo Class Pres 4 Glee Club 2 Stage Crew 3 Dramaucs 2 3 4 Pane Club 3 4 Pep Club 4 Nat lThesp1ans 3 4 Ir Play 3 Sr Play 4 Student Councrl 3 Saga Staff Operetta 3 PRESIDENT Class Officers .........4y Marylzn MARYLIN RYAN Nbne but hersel can be her parallel Major Scxence Ambmon Get Through College Class V Pres 3 4 Glee Club 3 4 Pep Club 4 Chess Club 1 4 Grrls Leaders Club 3 4 Senlor Play 4 Saga Staff Water Show 2 SECRETARY hui' ,lvl . 1 I f I f ' ' I of O . 0 . : ' I U I , 1, ,3,'4, ' ' . 1 I - I I 1 - ,N , 4 f VICE PRESIDENT r 1 1 1 7 1 1 1 I I I I 1 A . Flesher. Character, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service are the four keystones which every mem- ber of the National Honor Society must strive to uphold. The society promotes good citizenship, provides a goal for which every student may strive, and aids the school in various ways. Under the direction of Mrs. Neyerlin, our advisor, the five year old organization has initiated sev- eral new projects which have been beneficial in bringing the society closer to the student body. The success of our ta day and Holiday Alumni Dance was such that tiese affairs will now be- come annual events at C.C.l-I.S. Although Carolyn Acklen transferred to a Dallas, Texas High School, our membership remained at eleven. We are proud to award Takeshi Negeshi, our for- eign exchange student, honorary membership in the society. Ligh 36 Following one of their four keystones, the Honor Society served as guides at the P. Tucky has been active as the Interpreter in our musical, The King and I, and has aided his class in paper drives and other senior functions. His never- ending curiosity about our way of life and tireless energy keep many of us American students breathless. Next year another for- eign student will be here in his place, and Tucky will be home in japan finishing his sen- ior year. We at Clar- ence will never forget Takeshi Negeshi, our first foreign exchange student. Foreign Exchange This year our school was host to our first forei ex- change student. Witlginthe diligent planning of the Stu- dent Council, Dr. Repp, and the American Field Service, Takeshi Negeshi sailed here from Japan this September to become a member of the Edgar P. Rhodes family and a student at Clarence High. . 1-I, ig., Tucky's study of American subjects is always done with concentration and interest, ft -t..it1.s 'I W .
