Mr. Burt Swales Two years ago Mr. Burt Swales came to Parker High School to teach his- tory. We did not have an opportunity to become acquainted with him until January of that year when he started to teach us Junior history. In Septem- ber of the following year we met him again at Parker, only this time he was assistant principal as well as our history teacher. Just before the Christmas holidays, we discovered that Mr. Swales intended to leave Parker in June to return to college. We are sure that all of the students will be sorry to see him go. The Class of '46 wish to thank him for the many hours he has spent help- ing our classmates and school pals, for always giving us his best advice on problems that would have otherwise stumped us. We also wish to thank him for his aid in the production on the yearbook. So in this small way we thank you, Mr. Swales, for being a wonderful advisor to our class.

to the C-slao j I9dd As you of the student body peruse the contents of this annual resume of your activities during the semesters that have comprised our school year, many happy memories will be revived. That is as it should he. May they recur to you again and again upon the journey into the realms of business and social activities which will soon command your careful attention. But let us not he too deeply concerned with the past. At this stage in the lives of all students in high schools and colleges the future is of major importance to us. Without dwelling too much upon the subject, it can he said here that the world, but recently the victim of the greatest holocaust and mass slaughter civilization has ever known, now’ finds itself in a maze of uncertainty. Those two conditions, both unwarranted, present a challenge to you. Upon your shoulders will rest the solu- tion of the awe-inspiring problem. At the same time, never before in the history of civilization did any challenge present so great an opportunity to young men and women as is presented by this one. Will this sorely troubled world emerge triumphant out of the chaos in which it now finds itself? File answer to that most pertinent ques- tion, is now in your hands. That you will solve it there is not the slightest doubt.

Our Principal Board of Education Two years ago, Mr. Carl Stamp became the principal of Parker High School. This was not our first acquaintance with Mr. Stamp, how- ever, because we first met him while in eighth grade and again in our freshman year, when he was of great help to us in getting our courses for the four years to follow straight- ened. In the two years that he has been principal he has held his position with enthusiasm, and has held a strict hand in the guidance of the students. It was through his efforts that Parker encouraged a football team, which has made notable victories. He also gathered the student body together to a group of assemblies that were thoroughly enjoyed by all. One of his outstanding achievements this year was the cutting of the school day to eight periods in- stead of the usual nine. So, the class of ’46 wish to extend their gratitude to Mr. Stamp for the aid and en- couragement he has given us, along with his Left To Right: A. Hughes, H. Payne, J. Grey, S. Freeman, H. Cory, G. Burns, E. Heeb, W. Hoffman, R. Fiegel, H. Choate (not shown). Mr. Carl Stamp splendid cooperation with us in all of our class projects. We feel that it is through his efforts that P.H.S. has gained its high prestige.
