SOCCER 1941 The Soccer Schedule for 1941 was as follows: Parker 2 North Collins 0 Wood lawn 1 Amherst 0 Attica 1 Eden 0 Holland 2 Ga rdenvi11e 1 Orchard Park Opponent s 2 1 0 2 2 2 2 4 The 1941 Soccer team displayed some excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. The halfbacks and fullbacks developed great power and played good defensive ball and although some of our forwards were inexperienced, they proved to be fast and displayed expert maneuverability. Adolph Kapuza excelled in all positions. He was elected honorary captain and received the award as our most valuable player. 41 VARSITY BASKETBALL This year, due to the efforts of Mr. Myers and Mr, Klein, Parker High School was admitted to the Lake Shore Basketball League. Prior to this, Parker High had been an independent team. At the beginning of the season, our coach, Mr. Klein, had only six experienced players, and two of these were lost during the season. Although in some games the team was badly defeated, in many others it lost by a very small margin. In spite of these reversals, our team never lost hope. This year, our school will lose only one varsity player, and this will mean that next fall nine experienced varsity men will return. JUNIOR VARSITY BASKETBALL Last November, more than thirty boys came out for Junior Varsity basketball. Twenty boys re- mained on the team. Under Mr. Small's expert supervision, two efficient working teams were devel- oped. All Sophomore members will be candidates for next year’s varsity teams. This year, for the first time, the Junior Varsity was in a league of their own. League rulings stated that only Freshmen and Sophomores could compete on J. V. Teams. Coach Small said, 'Although the Junior Varsity had a rather unsuccessful season 'on paper', the knowledge of basketball playing the boys acquired during the season is, no doubt, of far more importance to Parker High School than their wins and losses. We are sure that this group of fine high-spirited boys will win high laurels for themselves and Parker High when they have the honor of 'taking over' next year. GOLF TEAM For the first time in the history of Parker High School, we have had a golf team. This fall they entered the Western New York Suburban High School Golf League. Our team won two of the seven games played last fall. Seven games remain to be played this spring and the team has high hopes of winning over half of these matches. The members of the varsity team are Earl Stocker, Frank Welkner, Raymond Hanel and Edward Zimmerman. Other members of the squad are Charles Marshall, Robert Croop and Leon Stocker. Frank Welkner was high scorer with eight and one-half points. Earl Stocker was awarded the trophy for the most valuable member of the team. Besides being manager, he organized the team and interested Mr. King, who then became their coach. TENNIS TEAM The 1942 team shows signs of being one of the most promising teams ever assembled. Mr. Wright, the coach, feels that this may be due to the fact that many of last year’s team are back. Tennis practice began at an early date this year--practice being held in the gymnasium.
