SAGA PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS, '41, PARKER HIGH SCHOOL, CLARENCE, NEW YORK THE BARRACKS PARKER HIGH SCHOOL In the year 1922 the pres- ent building was constructed. The old building, a relic of of the academy days, was de- molished in the year 1924 to make room for a larger play- ground and a better view of our school. To relieve an overcrowded condition, an addition to the south was completed in the year 1936. Thus ends the evo- lution of our school from an old frame building to the mod- ern brick and steel structure of the present. I ! 1 ' ' J J J J COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF rn.oip.i, J J J .1 .1 1 THE GENERALS. We who were called to service in September 1937, have now attained the rank of captain. When we were Corporals, our in- itiation by the Sargeants was a stirring event of major importance. We were honored to have a classmate, Kenny Moore, as a cheerleader. Advancing to the rank of Sergeant, we enjoyed a pleasant and serene year under Lieutenant Colonel Durkee. We engaged in our first two bat- tles, namely the prom and the re- sponsibility for commencement deco- rations during our existance as lieutenants. Now that we have obtained the rank of Captain, we can survey our efforts during this eventful year. They are as follows: The Halloween Dance with its original decorations, the Christmas Dance with Bob Weber's orchestra, the Valley Forge Dance with its patriotic adornments, our triple feature Fun-Nite, and our victory of the year, 'Girl Shy . We have still to anticipate in our yearly events the fish fry and the Senior Prom. We have enjoyed the four years of our encampment together and we shall always cherish the friendships which we have established here. « I First row--Ruth Schurr, Norman Smith, Earl Stocker, Jessie Halecki, Ruth Butler, Daniel Hieman, Raymond Hanel, Pearl Kuehlwind, Betty Zellar Second row--Joyce Nehrboss, Mary Schrock, Arthur Hartwig, Helen Zurkan, Eldora Corbett, Richard Kleman, Evelyn Vogt, Vernice Schurr, Dorthea Reiner, Miss Tanner Third row--Martha Roth, Grace Giczykowski,Anna Marie Humig, Norma Ba11ing,Bernice Buchholz, Rome lie Riley, Lucy Ilicki, Dawn Darling. At the present, candidates for varisty baseball and track are reporting for try-outs, so that little can be said as to the success of these teams. Varsity soccer has just completed its most successful season. Although six out of nine games were lost, a great improvement was noticeable in the team. Throughout every game they displayed their fine teamwork and sportsmanship. In all the games they lost, they were defeated only by a one or two goal margin, the highest all season being four goals. Basketball was concerned mostly with building a team for the future. Mr. King was responsible for the J. V. team learning the fundamentals of basketball very thoroughly. This made it possible for Coach Berry to build up the Varsity team. Looking into the future, Mr. Berry continually drilled the sophomore and junior mem- bers of the first team, dividing up the time the seniors and sec- ond string varsity played in each game. Intramural sports were arranged to give each boy a chance to compete in all sports. From each gym class teams were formed and placed in a league. A very successful full schedule of games for each team was played by the basketball teams. The team that won the school championship was coached by Glendon K1ing1esmith . GIRLS' SPORTS This year the girls sports has undergone an improved change. Intramural sports has played an important part in the girls gym classes. It has given each girl a chance to do her part in show- ing her ability in sports. Each gym class is a part of League A, B, or C. These leagues play against each other in different teams to earn the champion- ship. The teams have taken part in all types of sport, soccer, speed- ball, basketball and volleyball. Dawn Darling’s team won the championships for soccer and speedball. Another group of girls to win a championship was ‘Mickey Schurr’s team, the champs of bas- ketball. Under the supervision of Miss Eaton, our gym teacher, the Intra- mural Sports has brought out the ability of several of the girls who part took in all sports. INDEX - A Cory, Charlene 27, 32 U Aiken. You know what a kick you would get out of hearing from school people and outsiders alike: “Best yearbook you ever put out!” Today’s yearbook staffs are turning to the modern, better process that gives them more pictures, flexibility in layout and more art work. Therefore, you find the best yearbooks today bearing this mark of quality: “Lithographed by Wm. J. Keller.” Lithography by Keller means more to year- book editors and advisers than just additional illustrations per page. It assures them of getting the utmost detail from their photographs. Photos never are marred by ugly “blackheads” or light inking—thanks to modern methods. Why not get in touch with this modern publish- ing house and ask to sec some of this year’s annuals. Then next fall switch from your present process of photo-offset or printing to the modern plan—Lithography by Keller. WM. I. KELLER COMPANY PINN R.
