939 ftiophecy Well, folks, here we are. Don’t look now, but this is June 1949. Lois Heist, our president, who—before her marriage a few years ago—was the famous dieti- cian in John Hopkins’, is calling to order the meeting of the class of ’39. Just like old times, there are Iva Beeman, remember she trained for beauty work and was so successful she married a few weeks later; Marion Capan, our former party decorator, who is a nationally known buyer for Robert Buyers’ large Fifth Avenue store; Margaret Sugg, who is now “The Beautician” of New York City; and last—but not least—is Anna Bistoff, who eloped, just after graduation, taking from circulation one of the most popular of the class. Finally, poor Loey gets the group quiet, though one in the front is still going strong. Yes, it’s Mona Moore. Up pops the question—“Have you decided to be a nurse or a pianist, Mona?” Loud laughter drowns her reply, but a few know that she made her decision and is now head nurse for the best doctor in this district, Jimmie Eichinger. Also in this group are Lorraine Meyer, a private secretary; Keith and Kent Nehrboss, famous engineers who flew from South America for this special day. We notice that Kent still eyes Mona in that certain way and the “other half” has considerable from another of the class. Which reminds me-do you listen to the “Pomp and Pay” radio hour every Tuesday? Jewel Crouch is making a name for herself as soprano in this current operetta! series. There in another comer is Beatrice Blosser, who composes those horrid Home Economics Exams, for the poor helpless children, and LaVeme Blosser, who runs a model farm in upper New York. Norman Burton, who is still trying to persuade that little blonde to become “Mrs.,” is our other farmer. Our other nurses, Jeannette Pless and Marie Zoeller, are also here. They became famous when the old waterfront burned. And here is Beulah Gallisdorfer, who is a nurse on a new liner traveling around the world. In still another comer, we recognize Cecelia Leising, who works in Buffalo; Myrtle Harfman, in Rochester; and Frances Ingram, in New York City. Another of our old group is George Madrid, who is prominent in social work near here. Have you had your hair done at the “Triangle Salon”? If you have, I’m sure you’ve recognized Hazel Rusnell, Boots Roszman and Eleanor Przybos. This reunion was nearly postponed because of Emma Mast. She has spent several years realizing her one ambition, sailing around the world. On the same liner was Emma Sievenpiper, the concert pianist. From way out West came Dick Seyfang, who coaches a well-known team, and LeRoy Yoder, a well-known mechanical engineer. Quiet suddenly descends like a faulty curtain, and the alumni of the class of 1939 come to order. 9
