We, the yearbook staff, would like to express our gratitude and ap- preciation to the many teachers and students who helped us produce this year's annual. Now, we bid Farewell” to Claremore High School and the stu- dents remaining for future years. Editor fit 4 BlMy FiscW The heart can push the sea and land Farther away on either hand; The soul can split the sky in two, And let the face of God shine through. - Millay fu W iH(yvbbAMj May 14, 1924-Odobto 4, 1961 And when he fell in whirlwind, he went down As when a lordly cedar, green with boughs. Goes down with a great shout upon the hills, And leaves a lonesome place against the sky. - Edwin Markham Adtoutu ti BoojuI ol B kiAoilCMj ... a MICKEY WALKER, President MRS. LOUISE PHILLIPS DR. PAUL BAKER E. C. SPRAGUE, Superintendent C. T. REDFERN FORREST BEAUFORD WILLARD GLOVER u p E R I N T E N D E N T MR. SPRAGUE Your future will be crowded with memories, and your 1962 Zebra will serve always as a reminder of many of those which you cherish most. Warm thoughts of good friends and happy recollec- tions of lively events and pleasant places will build up in your mind as you scan these pages again. I know you will remember, too, and use the basic training for life that you have gained in the high school years when you were learning to learn and learning to live. For your senior high school has given you some- thing far more significant than a mere three-year accu- mulation of dead facts to gather dust in the attic crannies of your mind. May the years ahead bring good will and prosperity to all present and future students and teachers who have a part in making this a school. MRS. PHILLIPS p Xi V K C I p Ou I MR. McKEEVER A liberal education may prove to be your rock- eting to success in any endeavor that you might pur- sue. What you read and what you learn govern your thinking and determine how substantial an education you build. All good things must be built of the best materials. In this space age, those who do not build an adequate background may be forced into the fall- out-shelters of disillusion and disappointment. I salute the graduating class of 1962. I hope your years in Claremore Senior High School have been both pleasant and fruitful and that your record may serve as an example to those who may follow in your footstep . You underclassmen have time to build your foundation for the kind of a record you wish to leave when you graduate. My best wishes go with all of you. XqxLcuJ wib T epctAjkH Mi MR. JOHNSON Many boys enroll in Agriculture each year to study the science of agriculture for their future business and way of life. They also develop knowledge of the various fields and occupations of manufacturing and distributing ag- ricultural products and providing services for farms and ranches. DejrtjdOMMd Our Homemaking Department stresses the importance of better selection of clothing, food, and utensils used in the home. This course develop better housewives and homemakers for the future. The students also learn bet- ter grooming and good health habits. £cte tC D yCtAiM Jb MR. HARMON The Science Department has stepped up its emphasis in the science field. New concepts are being studied to familiarize the student with new developments in science. It is hoped that the students will develop their thinking and be able to solve problems that will give him a better understanding of his science problems. The Mathematics Department is adopting the more modern approach to mathematics in its classes of geometry, algebra, and senior math. In this new method, the attempt is to stress the need for each person to learn to think through a problem rather than the method of learning by rote. Our History Department is designed to help students learn about their heritage, learn more about their essential background history, help him to adjust more readily to his environment, and prepare him for true citizenship. The courses acquaint the students with important economic, social, and political problems of the past, present, and future. (fJjbJtol qmjI Physical) The Health Department is divided into two semester courses. The first semester offers Psychology and the sec- ond semester course is Physiology. In these classes, the student can learn to adjust to social problems, but he can also learn personal cleanliness. This course is very necessary for senior students in particular to help them mature mentally. f H LusbdcJl DepctAjh cb In the Industrial Arts classes, students learn to appreciate industrial processes and a general understanding of the various fields of work that may lead to employment in industry. In Shop I the students learn the art of working with tools and wood. In Shop II, they are offered advanced tool operation and experience in advanced working and specializing in selected trades. In Driver’s Education, the students are instructed under expert guidance to become conscientious drivers. They acquire the basic concepts, attitudes, and habits that are needed to become a good citizen driver. MR. LINGENFELTER The Band, like anything else, must have teamwork to become extra good and we think that our band is the best. The students must put in many hard hours of practicing at home and at school, but they also get much en- joyment from their work. Our band is steadily growing in size and quality. No school is complete without a chorus and along with a fine vocal instructor, we have many students in- terested in choral and vocal music. During the school year, the chorus puts on many fine performances and each year we are very proud of their work. MR AGGERS The aims of the Commercial Department are to prepare students for a career in the various fields of business and to train them in the skills needed for personal use. With emphasis on college-preparatory courses, the enroll- ment in the department has increased. The department is striving to keep up with the drive toward automation by adding business machines as rapid- ly as money is available. MISS LANGLEY Even though the Speech Department is small, it is responsible for the Junior and Senior plays and some con- test speaking. There is one speech class, and in it the students learn to deliver various types of speeches with poise and confidence. A lot of work goes into the production of plays and the interest of the students in speech helped make this year’s plays the best in many years. F vt tgK L agu ge X jpctAJtM The specific objectives of the English Department are to train the students to listen and to read with under- standing, to speak and to write effectively, to find and interpret relevant data, to think logically, and to develop a keen appreciation for literature. MRS. WALKER MR. WEBSTER In the Foreign Language Department, we offer Spanish I and II. The students not only learn to speak this lan- guage, but they also obtain a better understanding of the lives and customs of people in other lands. MRS. RUTH ANN SANDERS. R.N. Mrs. Sanders is the nurse for all schools in the Claremore system: Claremont, West Side, Lincoln, Will Rogers Jr. High, and Claremore High School. Her office is in the Will Rogers Jr. High building. She is responsible for all first aid kits in each school and checks and maintains all supplies in each school. MRS. SANDERS MRS. CHATHAM CouhS P Is Mrs. Augustah Chatham Mrs. Chatham serves as an information guide for all colleges for graduating seniors. She helps students apply for scholarships and sets up tests of achievement. She also conducts tests such as the ACT, National Merit Scholarship, SAT, and Ohio Reading Test. BUS DRIVERS Left to Right: A. C. Phillips, Harland Jones, Don Moore, Murl Cline, Richard Crowder. CUSTODIANS Left Mr. Rudolph Wolf. Right: Mr. S. A. Millikin. Mr. Wolf and Mr. Millikin are responsible for the complete care of the high school building. They are the first to arrive and the last to leave the building in the eve- ning. Are they learning what you’re teaching, Mrs. Walker? Your class isn't as busy as you think, Coach Choate. Didn’t you like the joke, Mrs. Jaggers? That was an awful sour note, Mrs. Robinson. Do you have to do the whole yearbook yourself. Miss Langley? That was pretty bad, eh. Coaches? Don’t they draw pretty circles, Miss Ottinger? AGUSTAH W. CHATHAM Counselor American Literature H. E.
