AS A MATTER OF FACT .. As Shakespeare has said, There is a history in all men's lives, so it is, especially in a graduating class of Hickory High. Our first year in high school was spent at Greenpark, where we struggled thru' this year as green freshmen. We had come into a new surrounding and were supposedly ladies and gentlemen. Our minor duty was running errands for P. W. whenever he yelled. You remember he was the big boss. At last ,we came to dear ole Hickory High, one morning in September, 1941. We felt greener than ever this year because of the number of rooms and teachers. Our first week was a turmoil- yes-it took us that long to learn that Senorita Shuford taught Spanish in Room 25 and Mrs. Gwin taught English in Room 6. But, after so long, we were satisfactorily adjusted and were pro- moted to the ninth grade. Junior year seemed to be our busiest year. We took over the stand at the football games and sold magazines to raise money for the Junior-Senior. At last, the night, which all Juniors and Seniors look forward to, came. The gym was not decorated as elaborately as former years, but we had oodles of fun nevertheless. The theme for the Junior-Senior was Swing Fever and it surely hit the nail on the head. - One minor change that occurred at the beginning of our Senior year was a lower percentage of boys. Because of the war, many had joined the armed forces. We were on the verge of becoming men and women of the world, rather than living the irresponsible life of a,student. The moment we had been looking forward to came, as we received our diplomas. The helpful influence which Hickory High has had upon us will long be remembered by us, the Senior Class of Nineteen hun- dred forty-four and forty-five. And to the faculty, we extend our deepest thanks for making our life at Hickory High, a pleasant and profitable one. PAULINE SHIPMAN. Page Ten
