ELASS HISTUHY As freshmen, We entered upon some of the happiest years of our lives-the years spent here at Hickory High School. To most of us, Hickory High seemed very big and a little terrifying-at first. After the novelty and excitement of registration, We gradually settled into the routine of classes and studies and progressed steadily. We began to realize a little more our place in the life of our High School and to use better our study halls and classroom instruc- tion in our sophomore year. Z Wider horizons opened for us as juniors. For the first time, We became part of the intellectual and cultural realms of our school. Members of our class led in athletics, in public speaking, in various clubs. Harder lessons were taken in stride. An outstanding class was preparing to assume its responsibility of leadership the next year. The climax of our junior year Was, of course, our nautically- styled Junior-Senior Dance. This year, as seniors, we have carried on our tradition of leader- ship. Climaxing their high school careers, seniors have led in athletics, in dramatics, in public speaking, in music CBand and Glee Clubl, and in every club and organization of our school. The Twig was far above its usual high standard and the LOG is the best ever, containing many new features. The Senior Class this year also instituted a new school event-the annual Home- coming parade and selection of Sponsors. A distinguished class has completed its high school career, leav- ing its imprint on the traditions of Hickory High. Four happy years have sunk into Time's infinite sea. But We, the Senior Class of 1942, leave behind us this pledge: Whate'er may come in future years, nothing will ever lessen our devotion to Hickory High School or to its faculty. Page, Ten
