But stores like Nordstrom, Bullocks, ond Sok's Fifth Avenue found themselves com- peting with the tiny thrift stores in the ever-expending money moking mor- ket known os teenoge foshion. Avoil- oble in your thrift STOVGS were the styles of the 6O'sg the flower child imoge hod been revived in the 8O's. The 80's olso brought with it the skot- erfsurfer look. lf T-shirts, shorts ond high-tops were your thing, moybe you fell into this cotegory, Bong your heed wos onother clothing theme. These heovy-metolers tend- ed to weor T-shirts of their fovorite heovy-metol groups such os Dokken ond Motellico. As you went through the holls, you couIdn't help butsnotice the different personolities of students expressed through their clothing. Although thot might hove been sterotypicol, it wos o bosic foct. 9 to 5 - excuse me, there's c1Hyinrny soup! Complaints such as this were dealt with daily by those students who worked, many of whom were employed by local businesses. Why did these students choose to work? Senior Brent Gorris claimed he had to pay for dates, car insurance, and food. Junior Lisa Sheya agreed, I have to pay for my own car insurance, clothes, and anything else like skiing. However, many people had more hu- morous experiences while on the job, Jim Horne announced, One time when I was going to work I had to fight off a dog with a water bottle just to get to the doorl Paige Papineau declared that she, got to meet guys all the time, while she worked at the Griswold's Post Office. The post office has long been known as the singles hangout for students. While working was generally considered a drag, most students agreed that the extra money did come in handy. As David Bellinger pointed out, I have no trouble spending money.
