The El Espiritu staff would like to express the feelings of the school in ded- icating this page to Mr. Lyle C. Martin, who recently retired from his position as principal after 33 years at Claremont High. Mr. Martin first came to Claremont High in 1930 as a coach. In the years to follow, he coached varsity football,track, and cross country, and. taught boys'P. E. , history, American democracy, civics, and economics. In addition, he acted as supervisor to the annual staff, and on several occasions sponsored the Letter- man's Club and Key Club. In 1952, Mr. Martin gave up his teaching duties to become principal of Claremont High, a position he retained until his retirement last year. He has seen the many changes , the progress , the problems , and the glories of Clare- mont High during a 33 year period, and We salute him for these many years of service. His contributions, his efforts , and his achievements are all visible in our school, even though he himself is no longer an administrator. The high stan- dards and the special quality and achiev- ments of Claremont High are reflections of his guidance during these many years. To Mr. Martin we extend our deepest thanks and appreciation. 6
