In January they started a very successful March of Dimes drive, Junior high students enjoyed assemblies carefully planned by the council, including several worthwhile movies. Many hours were spent in preparation for the delightful parties. Thus, the members of the council, working together, have cemented a firm foundation with a busy, constructive year. 'N union' igh Sport This year the Junior High football team won halt ot their games. Mr. Reitnouer, who coached the team, reported that the turnout this year was very good. The highlight ofthe season was a thrilling game with San Dimas, which was won by the Claremont team in the last few seconds, by a 7-2 score. A large squad, showing promising potentialities, turned out for both the light- weight ancl heavyweight basketball teams, which were coached by Mr Jones. Interest, good team spirit and co-operation were displayed by members of both teams. The lightweight team won half ot their games, while the heavyweight team defeated Ontario, Norton, La Verne and San Dimas, and lost to Upland, Glendora, and 29 Palms. The members ot the track team have also shown considerable enthusiasm for track events. Coach Jones feels that there are good prospects for the future track team. ootlvall FIRST ROW R. The iunior high stu- dents have been active in numerous club proiects, the girls especially finding interest in the Homemakers Club, while the boys were busy participating in the programs provided by the Science, Hobby, and Sports Clubs. Some iunior high students were active and valuable members ot the Daubers Club, and other groups and committees in the senior high. In this way they strengthened the foundation upon which they will build in the future. omemalzero elulv Homemaking: . . . cooking . . , sewing . . . new skills . . . new ideas. Probably the best played game was the 20-7 Claremont victory over California Junior Republic. From the opening kickoff, Claremont was in command. There was a great deal of similarity between the 1952-53 Season and the one this year. The 'Pack went undefeated in nine league games, only to lose to Puente before going into the CIF playoffs. Tustin was toppled in the first playoff, 54-36, but Chula Vista came from behind to nip the Wolves 44-41 in the semi-finals. Claremont made a good showing in pre-season games and took the Consolation Trophy in the Chino Tournament. Captain Mike Gray led the league in scoring with 178 points, and was chosen by the Helms Athletic Foundation as Player of the Year in the small schools ClF division. Center Jackson, guard Gonzales, and forward Gray, placed on the All Tri-County League First Team. Next year, the 'Pack, led by captain Bim Jollymour, will seek to keep the championship in Claremont.
