Sea Fever it is called, and for many it has created a deep desire. There are those who read the poem and feel the wind hlown mist, see the grey dawn larealc- ing, and hear the sea-gull's crying. To them there could he nothing laetter than the vagrant lite ot the sea gypsy with the merry yams of tact and fancy told hy fellow seamen. The lonely sea seems to- heclcon with a sad and mournful tune, and the ship with wind in its sails follows a lone star along the watery path. When the sailors come home they hring with them stories of lite and adventure aboard shi . They tell how every morning they Hit the Deck , present themselves in orderly fashion, ang after inspection begin to work. When the worlc is done and the ship rests in port they begin their play. The games and tournaments malce up an important part of their life and they go uAshore to entertain and he entertained. Finally, when the ship reaches the home port, the sailors paclc up their sea hags and go home to live Secure lives tor a while. They enioy all the things characteristic ot life on land: plays, musicals, and social organizations. This lite means security and is a glorious reward for service on the voyage of the year. The sea always has a magnetic force which draws men to it, either for a holiday on its beaches or for a lite upon its lonely, surging swell. x 1 -.Q yi 'Ln nt: N11 qu an Q15 q n n n IA h n :n . :Q ,1 ,i us tl ,dim ,Mi Me lei KOOL I -, ---- 'H xp 1-1 my .V F'-I ' X F1 , 2. .1 in - Th-LT' 4 '57 vb , - , f 4.aff,L? , ' ,' f LQ w 9-5, ,Q ,, , 1 , V4 A- , ,G-'fT?s', '.u'1 gi pp 9,-. 151 L A X xg, - ' ' 7. , 3 I 1 5 , ,.-fvyf. QZBQCL In this stormy sea of world trouhle our small hut sturdy craft, education, is surely the only hope to hear men through rough seas. The ship could not he run without the cap- tain and his ship's otlicers. Principal Earl Thompson, the faculty, secretarial staff, and maintenance men all help steer the course toward greater shores of citizenship and schol- arly achievement. The science department together with mathematics will tum out students to navigate world courses and lceep the engines running. The study of English Speech and literature helps us to see clearly the guidin stars of high ideals and philosophies expresses hy men of the past. Finally, we ourselves learn to give to the future hy learning to formulate and express our own ideas. History and civics departments teach us how to profit from good and evil courses ot past voyages. The language department will help us form friendly relations as we touch foreign ports. Home economics lceeps things running smoothly in the galley. Music and art brighten the daily taslcs of our voyage. The crew of students signs on for a' six year voyage. The first two years we serve as calvin boys, just greenhorns learning the scholarly ropes. Ninth and tenth grades find us learning to set our own course and choosing our own subjects. We discover new alailities and interests in the assimilation of lmowledge and develop- ment ot slcills. ln our Fifth year, as Juniors, we serve as second mates getting ready for our big final year. As Seniors memhers of the Student Body we worlc hard to gather the final lcnfowl-' edge that will steer us on to johs and college. The baseball team played exceptionally well, and the spring season found that team the pride of school. individual traclc team members brought home medals, and the team as a whole malce a good showing. The Girl's Athletic Association participated in basketball, speedball, hockey, and baseball pla - days with other league schools. When the day's work is done and our craft is made ship shape and secure we enjoy extra-curricular activities. School nganizalions put power and variety into student 1 e. The Girls League painted and decorated, while the G.A.A. and Lettermen's courts kept order on hoard. The Annual labored hard perfecting the ship's log while the Wolf Packet staff recorded the events and provided amusing commentaries on the weeks events. Drama, Talent Show, and Operetta provided bright entertainment for the passengers. The lights were bright and the decks gaily decorated for several large and a few smaller dances. The Girrs League and Christmas dances reminded us that this was really leap year. The sound of music and laughter was heard far across the water at the Letterman's Carnival and the Stu- dent Body dance, which culminated an exciting election week. The voyage through' '48 was light- ened hy these hright moments. I' YY D181-4 l f----func-'wwf ls N K 1 AF.. .A , uk ,V ..?1g,'77 ' V -,K , k.. X I A 45, ,J K ., - 'V I., - ' .qu- X' . This was toiiowed by numerous entertaining programs There were movies and severai exchange assemblies. The exchange assemblies were iots ot fun since they gave us a chance to see our Tri-county sport rivais from their best sides. Then, ot course, there was HHurricane Tommy Tucker who gave us free of charge his famous hurricane imitation for which he received an enormous sum of money. Each class was responsible for one assembly per semester and we were all pleased with the results when our classmates surrendered their talents to the public eye. 5. 1- 4 I J tl All right, so this is a double exposure. It is a story of the household of Loam, the master, his three daughters, a nephew, a clergyman, and two servants. Lord Loam believes that all should he equal. that the servants should he treated as friends instead of underlings. When the party loecomes stranded on an island, they let nature talce its course and Crichton turns out to he the strongest of them all and therefore the master. The peace is interrupted when a ship appears and talces them home. At home everything is normal again. As Seniors we will be upping anchor and sailing out the road. We are looking forward to new experiences and new friends, but we also will have this bool: to remind us of you, our classmates and teachers. As we loolc through its pages in later years we will remember all the class parties, dances, plays, organizations. and other activities, which you have made mean so much to us. We want to take this time and place to thank you all for helping lighten our taslc. when we started out at the first of the year we lcnew what we had ahead of us, and we counted on aid from you to finish the job on time. Our special thanlcs goes to Mrs. McLellan and the art department for posters and, illustrations and to Mrs. McLellan and Mr. Booth for the Talent Show stage set: to Miss Corbeil for her contribution to the Talent Show and for the Operetta, whose proceeds went to the annual: to Miss Colbath for her wonderful help with the dances in our show: to Mr. Sisto for his stage direction: and to the entire faculty for their understanding in our many predicaments. Most of all we want to tell Mrs. Mahoney, our annual advisor, how much we appreciate her patience. understanding. and wonderful advice. Having worlced with the annual staff before she was able to tell us a great deal which we might otherwise have had to find out the hard way. The members of the staff also deserve special notice because they were always cooperative and showed an interest in spite of the tough jobs we gave them. Where would we have been without some of them during that last weelc before the deadline? We don't lmow just how to thank you for giving us this boolc, but we do lmow that producing it has been -an experience such as we never lmew before and probably will never lmow again. It is a iob which means a lot of worlc and exhaustion but when it is done the satisfaction is indescribable. We just want you to lcnow that this has been one ol: the best years of our lives and we shall never forget it.
