ROW 2-Mr. Granger, Harlan Johnson, Lowell Kluver, Jerome Sechler, Harm Rand, Ronald Prekker, Tom Thein, George Thein, John Jaenisch, Mr, Austinson. ROW 3-Ward Johnson, Larry Berghuis, John Koenen, James Jaenisch, Kermit Swanson, Harley Barney, Roger Heins, Duane Schoen, Edwin Jaenisch. The Clara City Blackhawks started the 1955 football season with 25 boys reporting. The team started out the season well by defeating the Hilan,Vikings by a score of 33-13. Bob Balster was the big gun in this game with his running and passing. In the second game of the year, the Hawks were again victorious when they literally shellacked the Maynard Eagles with a H3-7 score. The team kept on its winning ways when they defeated the Belview Bluejays by a score of 12-ll. The Blackhawks were dealt a severe blow in this game when George Thein suffered a broken collar bone and Bob Balster a torn cartilage. Despite these injuries -9 the team defeated Murdock by a score of 37-6. The Blackhawks then suffered their first loss to Kerhkoven by a sc- ore of 22-O. The team played one of its most gallant games of the sea- son in spite of losing to Raymond by a score of 19-O. The Hawks lost their final game of the season to a very sharp Holloway team by a score of 30-O. Seven seniors ended their football careers in this game. Name- ly, Jerome Schuman, Eddie Jaenisch, Pete Thein, Co-Captains Bob Balster and Rod Wieberdink, Harlan Dragt, and Ronnie Dragt. Bob and Rod received All-Conference honors for the second year ln a row. Pete Thein and Jerome Schuman received honorable mention on the All-Conference team, I

BASKETBALL Mr. Austinson, Harley Barney, Roger Heins, Ronald Prekker, Gerald Ammer- mann, Pete Thein, Rod Wieberdink, Ronnie Dragt, Bob Balster, Todd John- son, Vernon Jurgens, Dennis Priebe, Gayle Clements, Ward Johnson. The Blackhawks compiled a season's record of ll wins and 8 losses. The Hawks dropped their opening game to a tall Willmar team but then won six in a row. In the remaining twelve games, the Hawks won 5 and lost 7. Clara City was rated the fifth best team in the district and play- ed the first rated team, Montevideo, in the first round of the District ll tournament. Monte eliminated the Hawks from the Tournaments ho-36, This was the last game for six Seniors-Captain Rodney wieberdink, Bob Balster, Jerry Ammermann, Pete Thein, Todd Johnson, and Ronald Dragt. Three boys were selected to the All-Conference team, namely, Wieberdink, Ammermann, and Thein. Wieberdink has received this honor for the past three years. Ammermann and Thein were selected for the first time. Johnson and Dragt were made honorable mention on the All-Conference tems Balster would undoubtedly have made the All-Conference team except for the operation on his knee midway in the season.
