Because it is a difficult task to regulate and finance the affairs of a school as large as ours, members of the board must of necessity possess a sincere interest in school problems and must be willing to devote their time unsparingly to finding solutions modern but practical. Such characteristics are pos- sessed to the very fullest exent by each of the Clairton directors. As part of their program to improve the local school system by expanding the curriculum, they have emphasized this year reading therapy, science, mathematics, and languages. The installation of the language laboratory, the extension of trigono- metry to a full year course, and the addition of new biology equipment are but outward signs of this program, of which the true value to students is immeasurable. Through the conscientious work of the Board, CHS has become a school that not only keeps abreast but expects to be out in front. Vice-President Hugh F. Mullen President Leonard C. Lehman

Knapp B.A. 1vr.A. Ph.D. Director Of CUfflCUlUm University of Pittsburgh A significant administration move in 1959 was securing the services of Dr. Helen Bachman Knipp, formerly of the University of Pittsburgh and the Read- ef's Digest staff. As Director of Curriculum and assist- ant to Dr. Bohren, this specialist in reading psychology, in the administration of placement tests, and in the teaching of foreign languages has set in motion many projects which will have long range effects on what is taught in the Clairton Schools. Besides helping many students with personal reading problems, she instituted in the first grades a radically different method of teach- ing reading which is reported to be having amazing results. Dr. Knipp is indeed welcome to Clairton.
