Getting ready for the Dukes. Stand up and holler. f t . , f 1 lil f' T f iw A key play in the title game as end Jay Huffman goes up for a first-per- iod pass which he caught out of the end zone. Defending is Wilkins- burg's Bob Petrina. 1 . Emily, along with her devoted group of cheer- leaders under the direction of Miss Barbara Ceryak, the marching band and the Honeybears, Benny's Saints , the Tech signs, and the cheering hordes of students and townspeople were the inspirational forces behind the 1957 football team-a team which rose to glorious heights, including the Steel Valley Championship, before being toppled from the high- est pinnacle on November 30 by Wilkinsburg High School. The Bears rolled over ten straight regular season opponents in crushing fashion to earn their bid to the big AA playoff game in the Pi1tStadium. This was a truly great Clairton team-a team that deserved everything it got, and perhaps de- served the championship, too. The squad faced one of the toughest schedules in WPIAL AA , but with a ground attack that was ultra-powerful and another dangerous weapon that wasn't even thought to be there at the season's start-a passing attack-the Bears completely demolished nine opponents in a row, and for the tenth, all-important Duquesne, pre- sented a stonewall defense that finally won them the game and the Steel Valley title. ,V on ill' 1 QC i 5 i I
