N0 P ,.. 1 , . 7PRoLoGuE: .. ,. ' I ' My name is Walter Winchbug. I am the author of this exciting novel, which underneath is really the story of what went on in Cloirton High School dur- ing the year 1957-1958. In doing research for the book, I lived at the school. I ate the food, risked my life in the halls, and even fdevoted, am l not?l did the work of a senior. The incoming sophomores made the first real im- pression on me. Those poor lost sheep! ln thev came through the wide doors, smiles on their faces and people. ioyous expectations in their hearts, thrilled at the prospect of finally being members of a senior high school and of meeting at least a thousand new How did they like it? It was more than thev ever could have suspected. They were thoroughlv deaf- ened by the bells and quite bewildered bv the lei- surely attitude of their iunior and senior frienki toward three-minute warnings. They rushed madlf while others lolled. They were comoletelv confused by the clear directions of kind upperclassmen like Richard Herbert and Craig Caldwell. But eventually they did catch on and the glazed look left their eyes. I even got to like them. You, dear reader, can make vour own decision. Here's the whole lost, lonely, slightly lazy, but likeable lot of them ..........
