Union Among the (loiremont sports were the old and the new. Football was popular this year, and C.H.S., early on, looked like quite a team. With a good series of wins, the team seemed bound for glory until quarterbock lomont Jockson's jaw was injured in a game against Patrkk Henry. With the impart, he was out for most of the season, and so were the Chiefs. 8ut super-athlete Chris Box, who made history four years ago os the first freshman ever to ploy varsity football at C.H.S., wos thosen as Player of the Year for the Western League and First Team All-League. His participation in a number of sports, football, wrestling, trock, and basketball among them, exemplified the athletes' dedication at Clairemont. The teams might not have always won, but the athletes were out there, performing for o crowd or just a handful of fans. Soc- cer, swimming, basketball, bodminton, track, softboll and volleyball were among the possibilities. Wrestlers were tough, and water-polo enthusiasts got their first taste of the sport ot Clairemont this year. It seems the only common sport not of- fered at C.H.S. was girls' tennis (cancell- ed this year in favor of water polo)... SPORTS 91
