Model United Nations is a program designed for students who have an interest in international politics ond world offoirs. Going to conferences at colleges such os UCSD, UC Riverside, and SOSU, the students developed their research and debating skills, represen- ting the views of foreign countries on pressing world concerns. C.H.S. is one of two schools in the nation that also puts on HS own conference for junior high school students at the end of the year. This unique feature, along with its other attributes, make the progrom a wor- thwhile endeavor that deserves to continue for many years. Academic Oe athk n: This year’s Academic Decathlon was held in November at Palomar College. Top acodemic students from all over San Diego County spent a day competing for medals in such subjects as the arts, languages, mathematics, social studies, and economics. This year's Clairemont winners were Shando Magee, who won a silver medal for science, and Lorna Swanson, who won a bronze medal in economics. Academic Team: The Academic Team, coached by Betty Olson and llaria Krejer, was a team of students who competed against other San Diego City Schools to see who could accurately answer the greatest number of questions in the shortest amount of time. Participants had to be reasonably quick with answers as well os have a wide variety of knowledge.
