Bump! Set! Spike! Although there were no vktories for our Vorsity Volleyball Chieftains, eoch gome was (lose and full of excitement. These seven lodies showed lots of enthusiasm and refused to give up fighting for that Chieftain glory. The only returning varsity volleyball players this year were Agueda Gra- jeda and Michelle Miller. Their experience combined with the strength and determination of their fellow team players was enough to moke them all winners in the sport. This year the junior varsity volleyball team wos mode up of ten newcomers. Together os a team they showed us that they, as part of the Chieftain family, were dedicated to the sport, ex- hibiting lots of spirit, skill and enthusiosm. All of them worked together proving themselves in the victory over Mission Boy this season. The ten proved to have the Chieftain ability and mode us all proud. SKHTS 119

Cloiremont's cross-country teom finished fourth this year. On an individual basis, Jaime Montero and Doug Knight were nam- ed to the first team in the Western League 1987. Jaime also finished sixteenth out of three hundred starters in the C.I.F. thompionships. When asked how he felt about this year’s teom, Coach Cravens replied, They were very cooperative and work- ed hard; I was very pleased with their overall improvements. The girls’ cross-country team was made up of three new recruits with second year returning runners, Elizabeth Contreras and Deeno Peterson. Bosed on the determined effort given by all the team members, they were expected to do better than they hod. Their record doesn’t do justice to the positive attitude the team had. The three Contreras sisters, led by senior and number-one runner Diana Conlreros, gave the sport a family atmosphere with emphasis placed on the enjoyment of running. SPORTS 121
