Members attend weekly meets in which they rally to answer the most questions in a given time limit. The competition works much like the college bowls of the 1Q5O's, as schools all over San Diego battle each week at Freshmen, Junior Varsity and Varsity levels. At the end of the year, there are playoffs for the school with the most wins. Acodemic Decothlon Teom On Soturdoy, November 15, students from 45 schools from oll over Son Diego competed in the fourth onnuol Acodemic Decothlon. Eoch teom consisted of three A students, three B students, ond three C students who spent the entire doy toking tests in such subjects os economics, fineorts, Iiteroture, mothemotics ond science. Students olso wrote o timed essoy, gove speeches ond in- terviews, ond competed in the group Super Quiz. Though only four members from Cloiremont's teom ot- tended, they put forth o voliont effort. ln foct, Louro Wright wollsed owoy with the top essoy in the whole competition, gornering 999 points out of o possible 1000. German and Russian Club The German Club, led by Q Frau Krejer, is for students who 5 want to learn more about the A German culture, language, and lifestyle. Most of the students in- volved in the club do take Ger- man here at Clairemont. Excep- tional studentsgtake the German Exam, and everyone gets to sing songs and participate in varied I German activities. Group events include the semi- annual festival at a Greek Orthodox Church, trips to Balboa Park to see Rus- sian icons, excursions to Russian restaurants, and x trips to musical events, such as the Nutcracker Suite. Since the Soviets are of major interest to people of the United States, group members l seek to understand not only the complicated Rus- sian language, but a diverse culture as well.
