VARSITY BASKETBALL had its high—and low—points Coach Dick Eilor this year With only two lettermen returning from last year the varsity basketball team was dependent upon the JV squad for its nucleus this season. Troubled by lack of experience, unusually tough com- petition, and a few bad breaks, the Chiefs struggled through 23 games, winning 6 and losing 17. The only league wins came against Point Loma twice, thus easing the pain of finishing in the Western League cellar. The scoring of Ken Henderson, with two 32-point games, and steady play by Bill Mason, Ted Heckman, and Randy Allen helped salvage an otherwise disappointing season. The presence of ten seniors and only one underclassman on the team prevented this year from being one of rebuilding. How- ever, despite this graduation toll, basketball should again take a turn for the better with several fine JV players joining the varsity next year. Varsity Basketball Squad 174
