Dr. Samuel P. Hyder Although not a member of the staff or faculty, Dr. Hyder is a familiar sight to old hands at C.C .H.S. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Carson-Newman College, and Master's and Doctor's Degrees from the University of Tennessee . Doctor Sam is Professor of Education at L.M. U. and as such helped prepare several of our faculty for teaching careers . Aside from his classwork at L.M.U., he supervises the Student Teaching Program conducted by L.M.U. in cooperation with area high schools. This program is a sort of internship, or on-the -job training, for college seniors Who plan to teach During the first part of it, they observe the teacher's methods and get to know day-to day problems and how experienced teachers cope with them . In the advanced stages they conduct classes under supervision of the teacher, with reports to Dr . Hyder from the student-teacher, teacher, and principal. An average year at C .C .H.S. sees twelve or fifteen such trainees . 81
