?-l 4- W . 'wil I Oifice Aides Our office aides are like good health -- often not properly appreciated until absent for a day or two . Their contribution is so much an element of smooth administration that we perhaps take it too much for granted in the rush of events. To a visiting parent, the most outstanding tasks of these ladies are those performed in the principal's office. The more important of these are assis- ting in compiling and maintaining school records on attendance, academic performance, and finances. Also, at a moment's notice an aide may find her- self answering a telephone call from a parent explaining why Susie or johnny will be out today, typing, mimeographing, or grading tests for a teacher, sorting out mail, checking the inventory of carbon paper, or any of a hundred jobs that pop up in the course of a school day. Less obvious to a casual visitor, but just as important in daily routine, are such assignments as collection of absentee lists, handling of cafeteria accounts, management of the student school supply store, and lending a hand on clerical Work in the Library and Guidance Office .
