Some of the things studied in math are formulas, polygons, study of areas and proportions. Mathematics are very important for students planning to go into the fields of mathematics, science, engineering, nursing a11d many others. The mathematics courses offered to the students are General Math, Algebra, Solid Geometry and Trigonometry. X 'ITYPING AND SHORT:-:AND The purpose of typing is to develop skill on the typewriter and to give students a knowl- edge of problems in correspondnce, manuscripts and tabulation. Typing is required of all shorthand students. The purpose of Shorthand I is to give the students elementary work in shorthand. This course should be taken by students who plan to have stenographic careers. Shorthand ll and Transcription provides an extensive course in increasing speed in taking of dictation and the preparing of mailable transcripts.

SOCIAL SCIENCES Social Studies gives the beginning students an orientation into high school life, and to life in general. The basis of the course is World Geography. Aside from the physical geography of the world, the course also considers the political and economic geography. World History acquaints the students with the development of man in Western civilization to The world at the present time. American History's purpose is to give students a farily complete knowledge of the ideals and basic principles which have helped to found the American way of life. American Problems gives students an understanding of the current social and economic problems facing our country. SCIENCE General Science is a survey course in science for freshmen. It covers several areas very generally. Specfically the course covers electricity and light, sound, transportation, etc. Biology helps the student gain an luiderstanding of the problems of living things, both plant and animal, and to gain a better understanding of himself. ' Chemistry gives the students an understanding of the problems of living things, both plant and animal, and to gain a better understanding of himself. Physical Science gives students an opportunity to explore further special fields in radio, astronomy. geology and special nroperties of materials which are involved in physical laws.

MECHANICAL DRAWING The purpose of mechanical drawing is to give students who are interested in drafting the opportunity to learn more about orthographic, lsometrlc, auxiliary views, sheet metal, architectural, machine and airplane drawing. SPEECH AND DRAMA The purpose of speech is to help the student gain poise and confidence in speaking to groups. Work is given students to develop as in presenting material orally and freely to groups while on one's feet. The purpose of drama is to aid the student in the development of a wide variety of skills and talents through dramatic expression. This gives the students an opportunity to develop poise, voice and diction through interpretation of feelings of characters. There is a wide variety of activities such as acting, pro- ducing, lighting, stage design, make-up, sound effects, musical background and business management.
