ENGLISH The purpose of English is to help the student to increase his ability in reading, writing and speech. Various forms of writing are studied, including much work in vocabulary build- ing. Some drill is given in parts of speech. English III and IV work more to instill an interest in literature and literary selections and to give considerable help in speaking and preparing research papers. FOREIGN LANGUAGES The foreign languages offered to our students are Latin, French, German and Spanish. The purpose of studying these languages is to develop skills in reading, writing and speak- ing the language of other lands. Learning the history, legend, politics, character, religion, customs and mythology are very important. Records, tape recordings, films, slides and speakers are used lo aid in providing better understanding and enjoyment of the language.

INDUSTRIAL ARTS The purpose of Wood Shop IS to permit those students interested in working with wood to develop their skills in the fields of milling, carpentry, cabinet making and furniture making. Some of the projects you'll find going on in Wood Shop are hand tool projects, machinegprojects and selected furniture projects such as tanning and making such things as lamps, coffee tables, desks and chairs. Metal Shop gives those students interested in the sheet metal trade experience in working with metals and tools. They have an opportunity to work with such art metals as copper, brass. and aluminum. They also becomefamiliar with the use of wrought iron in the fabricating of furniture and other products.

HOMEMAKING The purpose of homemaking is to help the students understand and appre- ciate the beauty in everyday living. Many activities take place in the home-1 making classes such as family living, homemaking, dating, personality, wardrobe, baby sitting, food preservation, textiles, cooking, sewing, home nursing, budget- ing, child care, and household needs. - AGRICULTURE The purpose of agriculture is to acquaint the student with good practices in the handling of soils, fertilizers, and crops. Some of the things to learn in agriculture are: breeding and livestock judgment, farm management, creating partnerships, lease, rope work, welding, soldering, and the ability to meet people.
