ILatin Department Latin, widely known as The Basic Language, provides a challenge to the most able student but is well within reach of the average. It provides a foundation for the study of any other language, including English, and offers a background for the study of literature, history, and the world of ideas as well as the vocabulary of most profes- sional and pre-professional subjects. A member of the State Department of Education stated the case thus: If educators preserve the ideology of sound liberal education, Latin enrollments, as well as those of modern languages, should grow as the population grows. MISS RAINEY Latin Candy Sales You've got to be putting me on! 13
