Our Mathematics Department A new course was introduced this year at CMHS for potential math majors. It follows a logical pattern of gaining all three dimensions of geometric figures in a single course rather than only the two dimensions that meet minimum college entry. The MATH DEPARTMENT, recognizing the greater emphasis upon the technological sciences, as well as its role in assisting pupils of CMHS to get a thorough, well-founded education, has attempted to readjust with the times in other ways too. This year pupils were screened according to their interest and aptitude in math through consideration of many factors. The purpose of the screening has been not to separate the smart from the dumb but to separate pupils according to the amount of math previously absorbed. This allows all pupils to progress from their present status to their utmost capacity, desire, or need. Though future changes may be made, just as has been the practice of the past, it is essential that the pupil remind him- self that he must constantly build on the basic knowledge he has gained by accepting new ideas and concepts as they arise.
