MISS DOROTHY G. RAINEY English Department Head Our Language Department The English Department not only has the main re- sponsibility for seeing that students improve their com- mand of their own language and become acquainted with the best writing of the English-speaking world, but it also sponsors a number of the school's activities. One such is the school newspaper, the Eaglet, this year in the capable hands of Mr. John Myers. The drama and speech teacher, Mr. John Kelso, has already directed one very successful play for the junior class and will likewise direct members of the senior class in their dramatic efforts in the spring. Latin Club has long been one of the largest and most active clubs at C. M., and now French Club, sponsored by Mrs. Lenz with the cooperation of Mr. Myers, is assuming a very active role in school life. Four members of the English Department spend part of their day in the foreign language field. Mrs. Lenz and Mr. Myers in French, Mr. Considine in German, and Miss Rainey, department head, in Latin. Mrs. Junia D. Smart teaches the upper levels of English, the highest of which compiles outstanding creative writing in a volume known as the Scribbler. Instruction of French in the Language Laboratory by Mr. Meyers. 6
