Dedicotion The Seniors of '54 proudly dedicate the Centennial Edition of their Spectator to the Board of Education of Bethalto Community Unit No. 8, namely, O. Derrell Smith, Presi- dent, Wilford Suessen, Secretary, Ned Bond, who has been a board member in our area for the past seven years, Milton Wolford, Bryon Drennan, Floyd McGaughey and Elmer Shaw. These men have furthered the growth and progress of Civic Memorial High School for the past four years and it is only through their careful planning, foresight, unceasing ef- forts and co-operation that our schools are considered the most progressive of this area. Their only desire has been to form and help guide an educational system which would meet the needs of boys and girls of this area. We feel that not or'ry should these men be honored and given appreciation by the stu- dents of C, M. High but by every person in this area. The Seniors wish to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for all you have provided forqus and we sincerely hope that the students here will always follow the example set by these seven outstanding, progressive men of our Community. Five

Students not only receive book- learning at C. M. High but further their social skills and ability to play together through sponsored parties. Instead of the usual freshman initi- ation, the students of C. Nl. High ex- tended the hand of friendship to our ninth graders this year through a Friendship Dance sponsored by the Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y Club. On September I, the doors of Civic Memorial High opened to ad- mit a student body of 600 to begin another nine months of learning ac- tivities within its classrooms. The first stop in their learning program is securing their texts from the Book Room. While here they stop to chat and renew old friendships, .
