Published by the SENIOR CLASS Copyrighted by BRUCE ZIMMERMAN, Editor JEAN BRINKMAN, Business Manager CIVIC MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL Bethalto, Illinois We, the Senior Class of 1951, proudly dedicate our first yearbook to John Mull, our principal and coach. Through his friendliness, splendid leadership and sense of fair play, we have all come to respect him and thereby honor him with this dedication. 2 SPECTATOR STAFF ASSISTANTS FIRST ROW: Maxine Andrews, Mece Gregory, Glynna Chamberlain, Jean Brinkman, LaVerne Hunter, Marian Fowler, Lucy Little, SECOND ROW: Janet Lenington, Mary Manns, Berniece Downing, Joyce Godwin, Jo Ann Ringering, Dorothy Bourland, Wanda Baker. ADMINISTRATOR'S MESSAGE I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Seniors for their fine co- operation in helping us establish the first 4-year recognized high school in this area. The lack of facilities, and the inconvenience that many of us had to go through to finish this year has been tremendous: but upon looking forward to the new school building where future graduating classes will emerge, we had the hope and our faculty had the courage to give you their best against great odds. There is agrowing interest in the educational pro- gram in this community and with much-needed equipment forthcoming, we will have one of the finest school systems that any community can offer. The academic program will be varied and much-needed provisions given in the future. Adain, to you seniors and the faculty, may I thank you for your sym- pathetic understanding, excellent co-operation and wholesome attitudes exemplified. JOHN A. You have visions of the future, a future in which you see homes, a shady street, families, automobiles and an abundance of the fine things of life. These things we have come ft accept as the American way of life and we have kept our standards high and our security firm. But. how many people visualize how this security was made? As you graduate this year, you need only look to your achievements and the fine record made in school to find the answer. No one completed your studies for you! Certainly you had guidance, instruction and help, but it was a big job and entirely up to you. In doing a suc- cessful job you built one important step in your security by the dint of your own efforts. America has become strong because what we have. has. from the time of the earliest pioneers, been earned by the sweat of the brow and the effort of individuals. If we as individuals expect security, and in turn if America is to survive, we must earn the right through our own individual efforts to make our vision come true. Security cannot be had by wishful thinking. Owens-Illinois is the leader in the glass industry, and has earned this place through its own efforts and those of the people who make up the company. Owens-Illinois congratulates you upon the completion of your school work. In years to come if you should become associated with us, perhaps we can earn and build our future security together.
