On the outside, one man said that peace was at hand, and ended up with his foot in his mouth instead. 21 INSIDE. . . ... City College continued to be City College. The $32 million Science and Physical Education Building was dedicated by a trium- phant President Robert Marshak and a cast of hundreds of officials and alumni, but not before the Board of Higher Education an nounced that it was suing the archi- tects of the building for S2.5 million for breach of contract, negligence, and malpractice because the building was falling apart before it was even finished. Not that we did not expect it. Two weeks after the new building was dedicated, the basement gym — Mahoney Gym - had to be shut down so construction workers could finish it. And most of us can remember at least one class on the tenth floor of the building that we had to walk to because the eleva tors had not been installed yet. Cafeteria Manager Larry B. was fired at the end of Summer '72 and his replacement promised to stop buying cafeteria food from what he called gypsy companies . He also sent out college-owned hot dog and ice cream carts to keep Raymond the Bagelman company. The college's Vice Provost for Ad- ministrative Affairs (that God- awful bureaucracy!) announced a 50% drop in crime on the campus. Soon afterward, a Wackenhut crashed one of the new three- wheeled vehicles (they look like mobile ice cream stands) into a tree, leaving scrap metal and splint- ers. 24 Cafeteria financial crisis brings new food director 25 26 It was a political year, and an elec tion year. Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden came here in September, and a thousand of us turned out on the South Campus lawn to hear their account of the war damage in North Vietnam. The prevailing sentiment on campus was that George McGovern had to win if the country was to be saved. 27 28 Yet, barely fifty students sat in the audience when Bella Abzug spoke at a McGovern teach-in in October. But the sense of urgency caught up with us, at long last, and six times that number were in Buttenweiser Lounge to hear EYEWITNESS Newsman Geraldo Rivera tell us what we wanted to hear about the Senator from South Dakota. And some who sought political aware ness went as far as to sign up for the course entitled American Political Realities taught by none other than former Representative Allard Lowenstein, the man who lost to John J. Rooney. 29 It was hard to imagine OUR col- lege, with its poor location, lack of funds, lack of facilities and student apathy, attracting any celebrity teachers, but that is exactly what happened. British author Anthony Burgess of A Clockwork Orange” fame, arrived to teach a course on James Joyce, and to make what seemed like weekly contributions to the Sunday Times Magazine on life at the college. Fellow author Elie Wiesel, brought his wealth of knowledge of the Holocaust of the Jewish people to the courses he taught as a member of the Jewish Studies Department. Sculptor George Segal and his ghostlike plaster people took up residence in Eisner Hall. Even Father Philip Ber rigan, the anti-war priest, visited the College briefly. The most exciting thing about all this was that these distinguished figures were all, to use a phrase from Wall Street, bullish” on City College. It was refreshing to see positive thinking among the faculty. 31 Innovation and planning spurred on by the Marshak Administration slowly came to flower. The Science and Physical Education Building was opened, the first step in the college master plan for the future. In September, the Board of Higher Education formally approved our plans for the Leonard Davis Center for the Performing Arts, a program established with a $2.5 million grant from the Davis family. A $3.5 million renovation plan for the North Campus buildings was announced in October. In that same month, the Alumni Association re- vealed that the City College fund had raised over $1 million for CCNY during the 125th anniversary year. The days of the Round Table and knighthood were recalled with the continued expansion of the Institute for Medieval and Renais- sance Studies. And a medical school for City moved a step closer to reality with an anonymous dona- tion of $1.2 million to finance it and the blessings of the Board of Higher Education. 32 Institute revives Middle Ages guests at Cloisters which is normally closed 0n Mondays. The theme of the lecture series this year is Ordo Mundi , the order of the universe . It deals with the medieval vision of the creation and destruction of the 1. 131 — No. 9 NEW YORK. N. The Student Senate proved once again its inability to do anything at all. It managed to stall for an entire se- mester the process of funding stu dent organizations. It managed not to investigate WCCR again, but instead charged The Paper with fiscal mismanagement. And this august body also managed to lose several of its number when it was revealed that they were not regis tered as students. The never ending battle of the CUNY budget got off to its usual start in Albany, and the faculty union at CUNY threatened a shutdown of the University with a no contract, no work policy. City put its bid in for a piece of the NYU Bronx campus that is supposed to go to Bronx Commun- ity College. And President Marshak lost the dreydl spinning champion- ship to the Chairman of the Jewish Studies Department. 35 It was a year of enlightenment — and disillusionment. Those of us who had any faith left in the country and its political system went down to defeat with George McGovern. Yet for the first time, we saw the system beginning to work at City. People were talking to people, and cooperating for constructive change. The college was showing, perhaps slowly at first, that it could cope with the awesome challenges of providing urban education for our city. Finally, it seemed to many of us, a glimmer of optimism had returned to the City College campus. It was good to have it back. 36 It appeared first in the American business community, and then in the federal govern- ment, so it was only a matter of time before Nixonian bureacracy made its appearance on the college campus. Five years ago, I could almost name and identify by face every top administrator and Dean at City; now, all three floors of the Administration Building fairly bulge with the outer, middle, and inner lines of defense of the Marshak administration. The college's newest president has seen how many of his successors had been felled by too close an involvement with the hurly-burly world of student activism and demands, so it is quite possible that his hiring of innumerable assistants and officials was 3 self-defensive act to shield himself from his constituency. It may also be true that the administrative structure was set up to relieve some of the burdens of his office from the President's shoulders; if this were, in fact, the case, then it has been eminently successful, for when President Marshak was unable to return to the school for some weeks in the fall due to medical reasons. City continued to function quite well without him. All this should not, however, leave one with the idea that the school's faculty and administration have grown ever distant from the student body. Quite the contrary, the past few years have seen great growth in the relationships between those of us who learn (or at least occupy space), and those who teach. And administrators, once you find them, are quite willing to discuss whatever it may be that is on your mind. During the years of the Vietnam war, and during innumerable City University budget crises, students, faculty, and administrators found that they did agree on many things, and that they could work together to accomplish their common goals. Under revised governance policies, many of the academic departments established student committees that not only advised the Chairman and his faculty, but actually took a hand in planning curriculum and hiring and firing staff members. Students, faculty, and administrators found that, after so many years, the things they were fighting for for this college were in large measure the same things. So we present, then, the members of the faculty of the City College. Some will be recognized as teachers, advisors, and co-workers in the fight for quality education. Some will be making their first appearance. But in any event, they are here. DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY (L. to R.) Front: A. Bar- dach, A. Gilliam. D. Dykyj, E. Leacock. L. Fowler, J. Nash. Back: M. EDUCATION TV AT CCNY Most people are familiar with tele- vision only in its capacity of home entertainment. Yet the uses of televi- sion should not merely be confined to the living room. In the field of educa- tion, the use of video tape recording equipment is becoming essential in the improvement of the educational pro- cess. The T.V. Studio of the School of Ed- ucation has been in operation for the past tour years. Originally an experi- mental project, the T.V. Studio has grown to become a fully utilized ed- ucational production facility. Its major activities are centered around teacher training. Many hours per week are devoted to the recording of practice lessons of student teachers. The student teaches a small mini- lesson in front of a TV camera. After- wards, a playback of his performance is analysed by both teacher and class- mates. The student aides working in the facil- ities get excellent experience in the use and application of the video medium. They are thoroughly trained in the use of video cameras, recorders, and all other equipment that is basic to a television studio. These are only a few of the activities that take place in the School of Education T.V. Studio. The usefulness of the studio has served as an example to other depart- ments. The Speech Department has recently installed a small production studio. This will allow students in the field of communications to receive first hand experience in working with the equipment, rather than just aquir- ing a theoretical knowledge of how the equipment is used. The College is also linked to other campuses of CUNY by CUMBIN. The City Univer- sity Mutual Benefit Instuctional Net- work enables simultaneous video and audio communication between classes held at other colleges and City. 72 STUDENT OMBUDSMAN The primary task of the Student Ombudsman is to serve as a confidential investigator in any specific case of alleged inequity, unfairness or maladmini- stration, and therein to be the impartial spokesman, both to the person or persons making the complaint and to the person(s) against whose performance the allegation is brought. Upon investigation or review of the situation, the Ombudsman then makes the appro- priate recommendations to the President. (I. to r.) Led by the pitching of Frank Camptsi, the beavers defeated LIU 5 to 3. The Blackbirds are rated among the top in college baseball on the east coast. CCNY's fall season record ended at 1 and 9. an improvement over last springs disatrous 0 and 14 record. Everyone, including Coach Bethel, will be looking to add a few moro victories to CCNY's record. BASKETBALL IV) - Mr. Jack Komincr Everyone was looking forward to a good season from the basketball team this year. They come off a 14 and 9 mark in 1972 which was the best since the middle 50's. A new playing surface in Mahoney Hall to replace Wingate Gym welcomed the beavers along with a tougher schedule. At this writing the beavers are 6 and 11, including an upset victory over host team Scranton in the Christmas Tournament. The beavers had their ups and downs. Injuries have plagued the beavers, plus the loss of their big man 6'7 center Wayne Horodowich at the end of January, because of gradua- tion. Wayne is continuing at CCNY as a physical education instructor. Coach Jack Kaminer looks ahead toward the end of the season where ho hopes city can repeat as CUNY champions. Mahoney Hall will be the site of the tc rnament this year. BASKETBALL (JVI - Coach: Ralph Bacote New Mahoney Hall was certainly changed the junior varsity. In their second contest of the year, the JV exploded for a 114 to 67 win over Wagner College. This was one of the highest point totals in CCNY history. At this writing the JV holds a winning record of 5 and 4, and Coach Bacote hopes the good play continues throughout the rest of the season. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (VI — Coach: Professor Roberta Cohen Assistant Athletic Director Professor Roberta Cohen maintains that her beaverettes are always in the game until the final buzzer. They scored a high of 58 points in their last victory, over Jersey City State, which brought their record to 4 and 5 so far this year. CROSS COUNTRY (V and JV) - Coach: Professor Francisco Castro Inexperience was a big factor in this fall's Cross Country squad. How- evers, the beavers overcame many problems to post a 4 and 7 record, bettering their 71 record by 2 wins. FENCING IV) — Coach— Professor Edward F. Lucia I JV) - Mr. Frank Seeley Professor Edward Lucia looks to this season as the rebirth of the CCNY fencing team. With the decision by the NCAA to drop the 1.6 rulo city college will be eligible to compete in the National Championships. At this writing their record is 2 and 2 in the Intercollegiate Fencing Associa- tion. Other members of the IFA include Army. Navy, and NYU: along with the Ivy League Schools, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, Brown Dartmouth, and Penn. GYMNASTICS V) - Coach: Mr. Fred Youngbluth The gymnastics team will be com| eteing with high spirits and determ- ination in the North Atlantic Gymnastic League this season. A heavy loss of experience due to graduation is the dilema Coach Youngbluth faces. But he has many new freshman to try and fill the gap with. So far this season the beavers arc 1 and 5 and look forward to doing well in this years championship. RIFLE (V and JV) - Coach: Mr. Jerrold Uretsky Closing down the rifle rango in Lowisohn Stadium has givon tho beaver shooters their ups and downs. Last seasons record of 14 and 3 will be hard to match because of the shooters not be able to practice as much as they dosire. At the writing a record of 3 and 1 doesn't sound bad. but individual scores do not make Coach Uretzky happy. The whole team, led by the coach, has been fighting to open the rifle range. The team has the ability to become league champs, all they need is a place to practice. HOCKEY (V) — Coach: Mr. Jim Fanizzi The City College Hockey Team is a Varsity team for the first time at CCNY this year. The beavers have certainly improved over last years 9 and 7 record. At this writing their records stands at 10-2-2 and are tied with Brooklyn for first place in tho Eastern Division of the Metropolitan Hock- ey league. With two games left in the season everyone is looking forward to a good performance in the playoffs and the return of the cup to CCNY. Veterans such as Nick Tagarelli, Ron Rubin, Jeff Williams. Nikola Rebraca. Ken Aronoff. Dan Shoenthall, and Walt Valentine, have blended together with four first year men. Bob Ingollis, John Mcekins, and Dean Vardakis strengthening the beaver attack. The Beaver Hockey Team looks for many good seasons as one of the colleges top teams. SOCCER V) Coach: Mr. Ray Klivecka (JV) Coach: Mr. Clifford Soas Duplicating their 71 record of 3-9-1 in Fall 1972 is not what coach Klivecka had hoped for. Injuries, to goalie Ray Labutis that was sustained against Oneonta. among others, has hurt the squad this year. Maybe with a yoars experience CCNY could climb upward in 1973. SWIMMING (V and JV) Coach: Mr. Paul Smith City College, in the third division of the N.Y. Metro. Collegiate Swim- ming Conference, has one of tho best chances to come out on top. At this writing their record is 4 and 6 with Coach Smith trying to better 72 s 6 and 7 mark. A girl on the swim team That's right, Diane Freed is now a member of the CCNY swimming team. INDOOR TRACK (V and JVI — Coach: Professor Francisco Castro Professor Castro and his squad have moved practice from the track in Wingate to the gym in Mahoney Hall. The gym floor is something new and different to everyone, and working out is different. Inexperience and a shortage of athletes again plagues Coach Castro. OUTDOOR TRACK (V and JV) Coach: Professor Francisco Castro Again the same problems apply to Coach Castro and his teams. Both he and his squads look forward to bottcring their 0-3-0- mark of 1972. WRESTLING (V) Coach: Mr. Robort Stahli (JV) Coach: Mr. David Borah First year varsity coach Robert Stahli inherits a team with virtually no changes. Trying to better last years 5 and 13 mark will be the 90a! he hopes to accomplish. At this writing their record is 1 and 5 and many inexjieri- enced members of the team are quickly gaining wrestling knowledge the hard way. Everyone looks toward .1 bright future. GOLF (V) Coach: Mr. Marvin Ltpschutz Coach Lipschutz and the Golf team are out better their dismal 1972 record of 2 and 6 this year. LACROSSE (VI Coach: Mr. George Baron Last years O and 10 record was very disappointing but what can you do if the only place you practice is slated for demolition. Lowisohn Stadium is home for many CCNY teams and the Laivosse team uses the field for practice. This years 11 game schedule will bo another tough one but Coach Baron is very optimistic. WOMEN'S SOFTBALL IV) Coach: Professor Roberta Cohen A 12 game schedule including the Now York State Tournament at tho end of April bring on tough opposition for the beaverettes. An improve ment on their 3 and 8 record of 1972 1$ expected by Coach Cohen. TENNIS (V) Coach: Professor Robert Greene Professor Greene came to CCNY from UCLA last year as tennis coach, and under his tutilage produced .1 9 and 4 record in 1972. Everyone is looking for at least the same, or even possible improvement in this years 14 game season. 81 iiillwl wmahdMstiM mSmmm § mmmk ■ 83 ONE TWO THREE ONE TWO 94 95 R. E. Marshak-President 98 125TH ANNIVERSARY THE CITY COLLEGE OF THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK NEW YORK. NEW YORK 10031 OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT 212 621-2286 April 6, 1973 TO: Graduates Class of '73 Despite what some people may think, today’s City College student is not basically different in motivation, goals and aspirations from the student of a half century ago, even though his history, culture and ethnic back- ground may differ. The City College student of yesterday and today both have had their roots in a uniquely urban way of life wnich, with its pressures for socio-economic upward mobility, creates an intense spirit of competition, toughness and determination. New York City is a well-spring of energy that motivates today's student just as it motivated the children of newly arrived immigrants in decades past. Hope and aspiration are essential incredients in life, especially in individual motivation. City College reflects, in the best sense, the diversification, richness and promise of the City which has nurtured and supported it for over 125 years. The students of today, once having glimpsed the opportunities for success, will succeed just as earlier generations did. Education by itself is never a panacea. However, City College, as much as any other institution in our society, has been a symbol of hope and a gateway through which the children of the poor could attain the promise of America — a life in which they could be free to pursue liberty and happiness. The College has not changed its function or its determination to continue to provide the highest quality education to students with the highest hopes and aspirations. As an alumni, you will have a unique opportunity to assist your Alma Mater. With your help we can see to it that the College continues to adhere to its continuing mission of providing free higher education to those with the desire and ability to benefit from it. Your support is imperative if The City College is to continue, in the months and years ahead, to hold to its goals and to its promise. R, E. MARSHAK President EXPANDING HORIZONS IN HIGHER EDUCATION FOR URBAN SOCIETY .1« 1 tf Egon Brenner - Oean Engineer 00 Marian H. Hosford - Dean Nursing Doyle M. Bortner - Dean Education Eugene A. Avallone - Dean Campus Planning Charles A. Baskerville - Dean General Studies Bernard Sohmer - Vice Provost Student Affairs - Ira Levin - Public Relation John Zuaro - Assist Dean Education i; Once upon a time there were great castles in the sky. They were Gothic structures with tunnels running underneath and through their rooms. In the old days these buildings formed something called an institution of higher learning. Today these old buildings are joined by superstructures that touch the sky and students that are higher than their education. The only way to appreciate something very large is to stand back and take an overall view. Education forms the largest part of most young peoples lives, and one should stand back and check its value. Many of us will never fully understand our years spent here. What was their value? Were they really as educational and con- structive as we always heard they would be? Like life, college gives you what you want to take from it. Did City College have a lot to give? Were we actually able to take? City College couldn't and didn't offer to show us the way to the sun, stars, and universe. Our goals were more earthbound, possibly in a short sighted way, and this slightly aged but still young mass of concrete and blood tried to bend and fold us towards our goals, as our teachers tried to bend and fold us towards theirs. A college experience is more than just an educational one. Classes are really only one part of what college life is all about. Those students who chose to look no further than the pages of their books, are probably as unhappily nearsighted in vision as they may prove to be in life. City College tried to offer more than just classes, it offered a whole life experience that centered around its students and their interests outside the classroom. The Finley Student Center is a crumbling monastery in the midst of an urban monster. The center houses many of the City College's extra-curricular student activities. These range from tightly run organizations providing student services, to the loose togetherness of Buttenweiser lounge, (perhaps for many the only real taste of what college life could have been like). There were days when the building seemed to be held together by ketchup from the snack bar, and a sweet cloud of smoke eminating from the aforemen- tioned lounge. How can any of us know whether the rest of our lives will be held together with anything more or less substantial? 106 organizations, you knew its pleasures and troubles, its re- s and its faults. You shared in something that at least you imember with greater affection than the stale educational ahere that afflicts so many of the colleges and universities of m ? 1 Some people were able to learn much in this building where so few college classes are given, but their transcripts will never show it. What grade or value can be placed on the friends and lovers that so many organizations helped us give birth to? Who can judge how much the Finley Center and its human ingredients helped in the growth and maturing of so many of the college's students? What about those who never grew up? Their influence is obvious throughout the world, if not in day to day life. What sort of people inhabit the Finley Center? Mostly students passing their free time between classes and grabbing some quick lunch. The basement floors of the building contain the college bookstore and the cafeteria. The first and second floors house student lounges, a snack bar, and the complex doings of the De- partment of Student Life. Then, on the third and fourth floors a strange change suddenly transpires, and those mysterious corridors become the home of the school's radio stat on, all the student newspapers, numerous ethnic clubs, and the nationally famous Student Senate. While the Finley Center does not house all of the college's student organizations, it does, during the terms time, play host to many of them. The following pages contain pictures of the members of the City College's student organizations. ' ......— -------- these sources can remember atmosphere today. Much time has already passed for the Finley Student Center. Its one hundred and thirty plus years will someday be ended by a wrecker's ball. But like all deaths, it will leave many memories behind. Its years of existence leave the building with many friends and many times of successful use. 107 The CCNY Anti-Drug League is organized to dispel the aura of drug abuse and romanticism with crime. Coordi- nated by Irwin Brownstein, the program is conducted by upper class advisers who have volunteered their time. The program includes pre registration assembly held prior to registration each term where the registration pro- cedure and curriculum requirements are explained to all new students along with a tour of the campus. The second phase of the program is the assign- ment of all freshman to a faculty mentor or an upper class adviser who meets with the new students on an informal basis. Starting this year, we opened a Drop-In Lounge in Shepard 09, a place where freshman can go to relax, to study, to talk about a problem, or just to socialize. 121 THE MUSICAL COMEDY SOCIETY of THE CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK presents A Fuuinu Thhig ffappeMex} OtiTke Way to tta rbrutti y Music and Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM Book by BURT SHEVELOVE and LARRY GELBART based on the plays of Plautus Entire production staged and directed by DICK NAGEL Produced by AARON SPEISER Musical Director STEVE STERNER Scenery and costumes by STEVE ASKINAZY Choreographer MARCIA ELKIND at BRONX COMMUNITY COLLEGE SATURDAY...............................MARCH 3, 1973 SATURDAY..............................MARCH 10, 1973 A FUNNY THING___ is presented through special arrangement with MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL 122 L. to R. Located on the fourth floor of the Finley Student Center, for 16 years WCCR has been providing informative and entertaining programming for its listening audience, while giving hundreds of City College students in-depth backgrounds in the broadcasting field. We have gone from closed-circuit broadcasting in only one building on the campus to canvassing the entire campus - North, South, the Science and Physical Education Building, and the School of Architecture. And this past year, our listening audience was in- creased to a potential of 25,000 people when WCCR went on the air as the audio portion of TelePrompTer Cable Television's Channel 8, the video service channel. WCCR maintains a 56 hour broadcast week — from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. Monday through Thursday, and 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. on Friday. WCCR is a totally student run organization. It provides an oppor- tunity for all students interested in the broadcasting fields be it announcing, news, engineering, production, programming, or pub- licity — to gain practical experience in the field of their choice through actual radio work. WCCR station policy is determined by a seven member Managing Board, the members of which are elected each semester by the general membership. What separates WCCR from the other college stations in the United States? Well, there are several things. We have a weekly public service program, College Forum , every Sunday on WXLO (pro- duced in conjunction with Westwood FIA). We've given live coverage (on TelePrompTer as well as on our own air) to all home games of the CCNY basketball team, to the CUNY Tournaments, and to the City College Hockey Team. And for the future — who knows, per haps WCCR TV, or WCCR FM. As one of the oldest, best equipped, and largest staffed radio stations in the City University system, the future certainly looks bright for WCCR. 127 128 134 DONALDS. ADLER i SALVATORE M. I see so many, Yet I know so few. So few who can really be- honest, and free, and themselves. I wonder where, (if anywhere) I will find a person A companion, friend, or lover. Yet, I still search, endlessly. . . Alone is a word - sometimes peaceful and nice and sometimes unhappy and empty. I am a person - sometimes content and happy and sometimes tired and sad. I am alone. . . You’re so confused. I want so much to lay your head on my shoulder. And rock you, And comfort you, And show you. . . But I can’t. You see, I don’t have the answers. I don't know. I’m still wondering myself. I’m confused, And lost, And alone. And I want someone to lay my head on their shoulder. . . Trilogy of Emptiness and Confusion - sll What is it really like? How many times have I asked myself this question? Colors and images whirl before my mind's eye. Flashes of the thousands of songs and voices I've heard appear. Sweet surrender, a blue melody, the road goes ever on. . . It does and they do. People do. The only things I've learned from Camus and Sartre have been Assert yourself. Forget about tomorrow and the common good.” But I still want to know , What is it really like? 264 A dismal sight — This city in the rain, People scurrying for shelter Buildings cowering And busy, life at a standstill. After 4, or 5, or 6 years of being sheltered in the Ivory Tower College Community. And now, the true struggle of life begins. Where to get a job? Where to get a place in this v orld, a philosophy to follow. Or to lead. And where is that certain someone? Has he (or she) been there all along And maybe, just maybe, the real me' and the real v orld, has been there all along. joann makris 2 71 272 STAFF SPONSORS 273 274 It would seem to me that in this day of everyone con- demning apathy the seniors of CCNY would be more con- cerned with the senior yearbook. The staff of the yearbook had one senior on it. The rest of the staff including the editor were lower classmen. I would also think that even if you didn't care enough to work on the book you would have had enough ego to want to be in it. Only % of the schools 4,000seniors bothered to have their picture taken. It would have cost nothing ex cept 15 minutes of your time. To the seniors that did have their picture taken, thank you. To those that didn't. . . A yearbook is not a one man job (although it sometimes seems like it). Without the help of all the people listed on the next page I would not have been able to finish this book. To them the rest of this is written (but you can read it also). Joann, thank you for your typing and poetry and every- thing. Howard gets credit for the history starting on page 20 and the opening of the faculty section. Thank you Greg for the lucid piece of work opening the club section. Norb, you wrote excellent sports copy. Thank you Paul, Chuck, Al, Herb, Archie, Shari and Luc for your photographic masterpieces. I would also like to thank Luc for his layout work. If any one out there knows who Luc is, he may win a no-prize. (Hint: Luc did the sec- tions that I didn't). Extra Special thanks to Sandy Lipkin someday to be- come Sandy Goldman for her unswerving confidence in me. Thanks also to Rob for his excellent work.
