Its first job was putting on the Freshmen-Sophomore Brawl. Later it managed Career Day which was at Citrus this year. The Welfare Council decided on what merits the Sportsmanship Awards, donated by Kenny Ferris, a Glendora jeweler, were to be given. A trophy is to be given to the outstanding athlete in football, basketball, baseball, track, and tennis. At the end of the football season the football team was honored by a Football Banquet. The toastmaster was Mr. Martinez and the speaker was Mike Pecarovich. This year's cabinet and six Iuniors attended one of the two conferences of the California Association of Student Councils. Some of the problems discussed were assemblies, student govern- ment and student representation, and the merit system. Later a conference was held here between the schools in the Tri-County League. Its main purpose was to promote a better inter-school feel- ing, but other problems concerning student government were taken up. Iacliie Van Ornum Qclerkj, Sharon Nott fjudgej, Bob Rodecker fbailiifj .Sjfuflmf Cuff The Student Court was established this year. It tries all cases relating to misconduct on the school grounds. There is a Citizenship Committee to see that the citizenship in the school is up to standard. This committee issues warrants and tells who is to appear before the Court. This year the members were Bruce Stanton, Breck Nott, Barbara Landon, Donna Mosley, and Iohnny Peyton. Iackie Van Ornum fclerkji, Sharon Nott Cjudgej, Bob Rodecker fbailiffj, Gerald Evans, Ray Glaze, Edu Mae Parris, Ioe Matwick, Ioe Reimuller, David Hofer. ir 1. Second row: Ernest Rogers Qtreasurerj, Kenneth Prestesater fpresidentj. Getting off to a lively start, the Class of '50 managed to maintain a fast pace in their following three years. As sophomores, they were active in adopting a fourteen-year-old boy from Holland, sponsoring a clean-up week, and presenting a one-act play for their class assembly. In their junior year, they kept up their pace by making their major goal the Iunior-Senior Ban- quet. This event, held at the Altadena Country Club, was one which will go down in the history of Citrus banquets as the most elaborate. They filled this, their last, year with preparations for graduation, such as having senior pic- tures taken, selection and measurements for caps and gowns, and the selection of graduation announcements. 'i To raise money for the gift to be left to the school, the class sponsored the annual senior play. They chose Little Women for this year. There was a large' turnout and that put another feather in the bonnet of the 1950 senior class. 'Q The members of the class of '50 have established themselves in sports, citizenship, scholar- ship, sportsmanship, and band. They have won three inner-class track championships in a row, while the girls managed to hold their own in inner-class championships, as well. The final burst of spirit was used in plans for senior week, the senior picnic, and last of all, graduation. O Ek 'Vw rrl I + lp ll ' 35. ' I Q? The first thing that confronted the juniors was to make enough money to sponsor the Iunior- Senior Banquet. Under the leadership of Iohnny Lopez, class president, the class went to work serving refreshments at the football games and after game dances. The class held cake sales and candy sales in Glendora and Azusa. Other events sponsored by the class were the Operetta, Pirates of Penzancef' put on by the music department. The Sock Hop and the May dance were both held in May in a last effort to make money. The social whirl was ended by the Iunior-Senior Banquet at the Altadena Country Club. The juniors given the honor of going to Girls' State and Boys' State at Sacramento were Marsha Iones and Bob Rodecker from Azusa and Marjorie Gunnison and Ierry Fine from Glendora. The girls and boys were chosen on the basis of scholarship, leadership, and popularity. Girls' and Boys' State is sponsored by the American Legion posts and the Auxiliaries in Azusa and Glendora. Through the guidance of Mr. Van Peursem, class adviser, and Mrs. Lynch, class sponsor, the juniors ended a busy year with the selection of senior class rings. Under the leadership of Breck Nott, class president, the class started the year by defeating the freshmen in the Freshmen-Sophomore Brawl. Since weather hadn't permitted the class to do any work on the CM last year, they did their bit this year. On a Saturday morning some of the boys took rocks up and laid them on part of the Cf The plan is to eventually cover the entire C, The sophomores also took part in the campus clean-up, with each guidance section taking care of the campus for one week. The class wanted everyone to'know who they were so they voted to buy blue and white sweaters. On the blue sweaters there is a white emblem that was designed by Linda Keiser, a member of the class. Later on, the class held their annual class picnic at San Dimas Park. The last event of the year was their class assembly which was held in Iune. lront row: P. Russell, Y. litter, I. Clinuvin, P. After crusading for one semester, the staff succeeded in putting out two editions of a printed paper. Because of lack of funds, they were forced to return to the mimeographed paper. To raise money for the paper they sponsored a cake sale. Theye were in debt most of the year but endeavored to persuade the Student Body to back them. Ioyce McClendon and Mary Ann Clements worked as co-editors. Under the direction of Ioan White, the class was taught techniques of writing and the operation of the mimeograph machine. A field trip to the Progress-Bulletin in Pomona was one of the class activities this year. The staff was rained out of the Activity Room, which was their classroom and office, at the beginning of the year. They retreated to the physics room until such time as they could return to the Activity Room. The crusade for the printed paper was given up near the end of the year, and the class worked hard to put out a good mimeographed issue. ociefaa Jafina V , f ,,- 1 , up-W '- K' I V ,M . f A , . t A X lfront row: ll. The Latin Club, which was started about thirty years ago hy Mrs. Ethel Sheldon. has grown and developed under the direction of Miss Margaret Purdum since she came to Citrus. lt is the oldest departmental club at Citrus. The initiation for the new members this year was planned and carried out by the second year students. As is the custom, the refreshments served were cheese, grape juice, and unleavened bread. At the next meeting, put on by the third year students, the entire school was invited to enjoy the motion picture, The Last Days of Pompeii. At the third meeting, the club members staged a short production entitled Iulius Caesarf, The third year students enjoyed a trip to the Huntington Library and the year was closed with a picnic and election of officers. This has been a very exciting year for the newly-reorganized Spanish Club. At their Hrst meeting they elected Vera Torres as the presiding oflicer, under the guidance of Mrs. Una French as adviser. The club, Los Paisanos, met once a month and the meetings were conducted entirely in Spanish. In place of club meetings, several trips were taken to places such as the Padua Hills Theatre and the Mission of San Iuan Capistrano. At their last meeting, unique pins were distributed to the members, and plans were made for a trip to Padua Hills Theatre to see El Mes de Mayo. IC JAN li. NVH ITH- Spanish. Buzzy and Coach Hauser can tell you it isn't so. Probably the majority of the students don't know much about the inner gym class basketball tournament. The classes play each other and the final playoffs take place at noon. This year the fourth period gym class came up victorious. Another thing, a lot of students probably donlt know, is that a senior boy must know how to swim before he can be graduated. This has become compulsory in the past two years. The sports schedule of the gym classes runs just about the same as that of the school teams. They begin the year with football, then switch to basketball, on with track and baseball, and wind it up swimming and tumbling. Buzzy Smyth and Wayne Hauser supervise the boys in their activities. girffi , pkgdicaf Liclucafion if S . l HELEN F. BURYVELL-Girls' Physical liducationg GRACE M. Because of this, the main purpose of the club is to look after the interests of all the boys. The Boys' Org, in recent years, has been relieved of most of its duties around school by the new clubs that have been organized, but providing the entertainment for divided assemblies is still left to Boys' Org. They put on several this year, namely: a basketball and baseball game between the faculty and the varsity squad. Since the assembly schedule was so full, they didn't put on as many assemblies as they had planned. Although the Org didn't have any father and son socials this year, they plan to do more of this type of thing in the future. The officers were Clyde Crew, president, Iohnny Carlson, vice-president, Bill lack Shores, treasurer, and Henry Enriquez, secretary. girfd, league if 'S E if .J il 3 Qi 2 542 Na 9 La 5 fi r, R rl ' . This year the Girls' League again sponsored their annual Valentine Dance. The students elected Sammy Dickerson and Sharon Nott as the King and Queen of Hearts. Good music, food, and decorations gave the finishing touches to avery entertaining evening. The Girls' League gave a variety of assemblies this year. The first one was a football game between the junior and senior girls. The game was done up in realistic fashion with the boys' uni- forms Qcomplete with pads and helmetsj, a doctor, and some temporary song and yell leaders. Boys' Org was invited to the annual Christmas Charity Drive Assembly. Both the students and the teachers gave so generously that a considerable amount of money was raised to give to several worthy organizations. The last assembly was the annual fashion show and tea for the mothers of the girls. Gay Ann Ostling was chairman of the show. The last events on the calendar were the election of next year's oflicers, the cabinetis beach party, and the awarding of a cup to the senior girl who had done the most work for Citrus. ougar nigkffs I Front row: I. Since the Yellow Iackets is a service club, one of its main activities is ushering at football and basketball games. Its members are also on duty in the halls throughout the year. The social end of the club's program was highlighted by an initiation skating party early in March. Five freshmen braved the initiation ceremonies into the club and were then escorted by the rest of the club members into the Winter Gardens to ice skate. Mr. Martinez and Mr. Kenney, faculty sponsors of the club, accompanied the ice skating party. This group, which has always dis- played school spirit and good sportsmanship, has managed to bring honors to Citrus through athletic achievements. The number of the group was increased to twenty-hve by the two initiations which were held during the past year. Shirley Detwiler's home was the scene of the fall initiation, while the spring one was held at Miller's Cabin. Three girls were initiated at the annual Big C house party at Bal- boa, which was looked forward to with great anticipation by all the girls. After the house party, the girls broke the tradition of a trip to Knott's Berry Farm by attend- ing The Drunkardn in Los Angeles. A dollar was taken from the treasury for each girl, the re- mainder of the ticket was purchased by the girls, individually. To raise money for these activities, the girls sold apples during gym classes. Ioyce Kelly, who was voted president this year, and her cabinet, consisting of Sharon Nott, vice-presidentg Sue Hunter, secretary-treasurerg and Shirley Detwiler, scrap book custodian, handled arrangements for all the events of the year, under the supervision of Grace Dryden, Big HC adviser. The presentation of the Winged Foot Awards to eight of the senior girls high-lighted the year. These are the highest awards given in the organization. SIQNIORS Ifrunl row: Ci. Ostling IGI, I.
