Vaniman Trustees The Board ot Trustees has the responsibility ot planning the school budget and allocating tunds tor the various school departments. This year it has also provided the students with bus transportation tor many sports events and several tield trips. Friendly and undersfanding, Mr. Sfurges always has a helpful sugges- fion for fhose who bring fheir problems fo him. He fakes an inferesf in all school acfivifies and is offen seen ouf on fhe frack field or helping a group plan some new acfivify. He has done much fo improve fhe social life of fhe sfuclenfs, and he is looking forward fo a more varied social program. If is composed of +he execufive cabinel, fhe presidenl of Boys' Org., lhe presidenl' of Girls' League, fhe presidenfs of each class, 1'he Siudeni' Welfare Council represenfaiives, and fhe guidance secfion represenfalives. During fhe firsf semesfer ihe Council mel' each week and during fhe second, every fwo weeks. Under fhe able leadership of Leonard Sills il' planned many acfivilies. The Welfare Council was responsible for +he recommendafion of a clean-up cam- paign, in which fhe whole school fook par+. The Council submi+'red several suggesfions as lo how 'l'he campus should be kepi' clean, one of which was adopled. The frash cans were painled yellow and orange by Lurece No'r+, Audrey Walker, and Bonnie Midkiff. When fhe class members were sophomores, wifh John Lifflefield as presidenf, a new sysfem was esfablished for inifiafing freshmen. Following Tom's deparfure fo affend a school in Los Angeles, Jimmy Jackson became presidenf, buf affer a few monfhs Jim resigned and David Sfurdivanf was elecfed fo fill fhe vacancy. The junior class sef ouf fhis year fo surpass fhe previous classes in presenfing fhe iunior-senior banquef. This was fhe goal on which everyfhing was cenfered. Their main problem was raising fhe money fo finance fhe banquef. In February fhey sponsored fwo donkey baskefball games, one in which fhe varsify feam played againsf fhe mighfy faculfy feam. The ofher game was befween fhe Civifan Club and fhe Glendora Chamber of Commerce. The resulf was vicfory for fhe Civifan Club. An evening of music was also sponsored by 'rhe iunior class. Half of fhe proceeds wenf fo fhe junior class and fhe ofher half fo fhe music deparfmenf. The iuniors also earned money by selling coca-cola, hof dogs, and apples af foof- ball and baslcefball games. On January 3l lhey held a class parly a+ fhe Azusa Woman's Club. The affair began wifh games and movie carloons and was concluded wifh a dance. The sophomores adopled a fourleen-year-old boy lhrough 'lhe Save a Child Federa- fion. The adopled boy, Wilhemus Bekkars, whose molher died during l'he war, lives in Holland wi+h his falher and four brofhers and sisfers. As sponsors of a clean-up week, +he sophomore class wenl' all oul' for a clean campus. A+ lunch lime records were played for everyone's enioymenl. One day during clean-up week was named as Jean Day and all came prepared for work. On April 27, a one-acl' play, The Secluded Spol ', was presenled as +he sophomore assembly. Members of l'he casl included Jean Shores, Sammy Dickerson, Donna Mosley, Nancy Springer, Ernesl Rogers, and Bill Coleman.
