Hanover, Kan p Of C0 mpany KU THE STICKERS S BY JACK TALBOTT ' 1 The history of Company K virtually begins on Tuesday, July 3oth, although the CMT.Camp officially opened Wednesday, August ISK. On that day those of us who .were 'early birds saw most of our new friends and pals. ' To those who were first to arrive, ithe new-comers furnished much amusement. Some were dressed in the height of ucake-eater fashion, while others were clad very plainly. After an hour of camp life, or rather after all had finished the physical examination and received their uniforms, it was hard to tell which was the Cake-eater and which was the plainly dressed fellow. After the examination and assigning to companies and tents was completed, we began the first drilling. Those who were fortunate in having previously had military training were made acting corporals. To those who were new, there came the Military Courtesy along with the left and right face, finally coming to squads leftv and right,,' and always, in the end, a grand mix-up. With the second week, honors began to be bestowed upon K Company. Much of this we accredit to our most able Company Commander, Captain Harry H. Baird, to our Lieutenants Hanna, Deyner, and Bergfield, and last but not least, to our Top-Kick, Sergeant Gavigan. One of the many things we pride Ourselves on is being the first battalion to stage a parade under arms. It was also in our first parade that we came into prominence, being the best Company in the battalion and later in the regiment, for whiC,h,we were givenfthe honor of being Color Guard Company for one week. S In relating a Company's history, it is always fitting and proper to give credit to certain organizations. At this point in our narrative I wish to make a few comments on the famous Pewee Squad ofthe 2nd Platoon. To those Seven men and their Corporal all the men of the Company extend their most hearty congratulations. Although they were snfall,'they were mighty. It was they who issued the invitations to General Dorey for luncheon on Tuesday, August 2Ist. It was their corporal who so ably acted as toast master. Page Eighty-Zhrfz I
