' 75 History of Company F QUALITY FIRST I BY TOM KENNEDY In the first few days of camp life, the finest ideal of the CMTC was brought out in Company F ,-namely COMRADESHIP. This was made manifest from the very first by one who endeared himself in the heart of each student because of his possession of those distinctive qualities which alone mark the true soldiers and real gentleman. These words express in a small measure the rare characteristics of Captain Roy N. Hagerty, Company Commander,-regularly stationed with the 17th Infantry. The personal interest which he took in each student's welfare, his own personality, and his ability as an ofiicer caused the boys one and all to become enthusiastic about their work and sports, and as a result Company life not only became easier, but a real enjoyment. At all times he was willing to help the individual as well as the Company, as long as he or it, whichever the case might be,'continued to 'CPLAY THE GAME? In the matter of having commissioned lieutenants, Company F was unusually fortunate in the possession of Lieutenants Donald S. Libbey and Robert W. Rowland, ISI1' and 2nd Lieutenants respectively of the ORC. Their patience, tact and fairminded- ness,-ever prominent throughout,Company affairs and Company work, together with real ability,-explained their individual success in civil,as well as military life. Lieutenant Libbey is a professor at Drerry College, Springfield, MO. Lieutenant Rowland is principal of the Columbus, Arkansas, High School. The fact that both are scholars proves that Company UF has the brightest Company of the regiment. The fact that the Company is a skillful mixture of the bright lads of Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas-especially of Arkansas,-cannot but make one believe that Company F boys are not thinking too much of themselves when they say they have the best Company of the regiment. Like most of the other companies, the majority of the men of F are from Arkansas. Missouri comes second, but second only in numbers, not in quality of work. Kansas comes third in numbers,-as to work,-well it does not beat Missouri. We must give Arkansas the position it holds in the alphabetical index, none other than first. The well established fact as to majority rules holds its supreme place with the Arkansas boys, but when they rule, they UPLAY THE GAME? AS is true with all organizations, Company F had its individual celebrities, among these, the wits, the dumb-bells, and extra wise Ones. Chief amongfthe wits was Arkansas Bill. Gn all occasions he was ready with a remark which was often the ruination of an attentive formation, making him, in addition to his other qualifications, an admirable candidate for K. P. At all unusual happenings he was prone to remark, That was a h- Of a note, said the monkey, as he sneezed into the saxaphonef' Page Sixty-jim'
