Maru l,l,o, OFACKQQH ' From ihe Commander THE SLAVE HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY-NOR FREEDOM THE PRISONER HAS LOST HIS FREEDOM-AND HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY. YOU HAVE MORE FREEDOM THAN ANY OTHER PEOPLE ON EARTH-HENCE MORE RE- SPONSIBILITY 4 , ' WITH FREEDOM GOES RESPONSIBILITY. A H - HALSTEAD DOREY. 7 Our Answer DEDICATED To GENERAL HALSTEAD DOREY Commander CMT Camp, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. We've read your message-ev'ry word. Your Harning call has thrilled our souls, And with Swelling hearts-heads high-Hung Fast coursing blood-we call the rolls Of memory, and our emotions Sweeping, surging, no longer shy, Burst forth in a youth-throated Shout Which, echoing, brings its own reply- LET'S GO! This cry-slogan of comrades true, Where all shall go-no one alone, In peace spurs on the citizen, Whose countryls sorrows are his own. War's fury breaks. Itsitempest brings Hatred and strife-death and torture. Sorrowing-yes-but unafraid, Forth steps the Citizen-Soldier. We,Ve read your message, Sir, and here We cannot answer. You must read In clearer eyes of higher aims, A quicker sense of country's need, Higher, quicker, because of you. So Will to dare-Power to do When, in peace or war, there rings that Slogan of comrades-such as you- LET'S GOI W. L. HOWARD Company IH Page Twenty-five

.paw U 1. I croaa The Executive Offieerjs Message l : E LIEUTENANT COLONEL L. C. BENNETT Executive Officer When you have received this annual the camp will have been closed and you young men who attended it will be at your homes. Some of you will be in school and the rest wi-ll be at your civilian tasks. But I ask of you, to not forget those vital things of knowledge that a successful citizen or soldier must know-the things that were taught you at the camp this year. A , I saw you young men from Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri when you first came into our midst, and I watched you as you left the camp for your homes. When you left your shoulders were straighter than whenyou came, you held your heads up and your chests out. Your appearance was Hmilitaryf' and your manner suggested that you had enough' confidence in yourselves to be the master of any situation that might arise. You have done nobly in your training. The intensive training which you received was no doubt hard on some of you, but you 'ccarried oni' as REAL Americans always do, and I have yet to hear you grumble. In parting I wish to remind you again to follow out your teachings and to always lead clean and noble lives, so that when the Great Moment comes and you are called upon for duty with YOUR Colors, you will be ready and fit for service. Mayi you ever prosper. LIEUT.-COLONEL L. C. BENNETT, Executive Officer. Page Twenty-reven
