Eloerhart, R. Schmidt, W. Eberhart. Our second team this year was almost on a par with the first. There were few second teams in this part of the state which were as good. They won nine games and lost one during the season. They shut out several teams and won easily over their opponents. They dropped the game with Watseka owing to the fact that several mem- bers of the second team were saved for the first team game. They scored shut-out victories over such fast teams as Rankin and Mil- ford, and also held them to one point each in the second encounter with them. Among others they toppled the fast Onarga Military crew twice in two games, with scores of 11-10 and 24-3 respectively. Crum starred in the last encounter, ringing up five baskets in the first half. We vanquished our ancient rivals by a 24-12 score, which took all the joy from the county seat basketball fans. By defeating Donovan and Watseka we gained the fight to enter the finals. It was only in an overtime game that we were able to beat the hard fighting Sheldon team by a score of 18 to 15. After the game L. Baylor was presented with the trophy and the All-Star teams were announced. We placed three men on the first All-Star team, besides getting the sportsman- ship medal. DISTRICT TOURNAMENT When the drawings were received we were matched against the Kempton Five. By our fast offensive we were able to defeat them 29-5. They failed to register a single field basket against our guards. Our next game was with the Manteno outfit which had previously de- feated St. Anne and Donovan. We also Hnished this game with the long end of a 25-16 count. Our next game was considered by many to be the best game in the en- tire tournament. In it we defeated Kankakee by a count of 22 to 13, giving us the right to play in the finals. In the finals we were doped to win easily over Harvey, but the pace of the afternoon game had so sapped our strength that Harvey was able to come from behind to win in the second half, the score being 16-10. After the game the All-Star teams were announced. We placed two men on the first All-Star team. WESLEYAN TOURNAMENT Due to the splendid record made throughout the season, we were in- vited to compete in the annual basketball tournament at the Illinois Wes- leyan University. For our first game We drew the strong Odell five, who defeated us by a one point victory. TRACK Our hopes of having a winning track team were very dim at first, but as the season progressed several men were developed into sure point winners. We Were greatly handicapped due to the fact that We do not have a track onwhich to practice. We used the road for our dashes and run around the block, under the Wrath of some of our good neighbors, for our distance runs. Most of the schools of the county have a good cinder track, which enables their men to get into the best of condition. Our track season was featured by three important meets. The county meet was the first of these held on April 30, at Onarga, Illinois. The second was the district meet, a preliminary to the state meet, held on May eighth at Watseka, and the third was the Little Five meet held May 21 at Milford. In the county track and field meet Milford Won an easy first, and Gil- man and Cissna Park tied for second. In this meet Hamrick was our in- dividual star, winning first in the mile Without any great amount of com- petition, and later placing third in the half-mile. His time for the mile was 5 minutes and 7 seconds. Hurliman also Won a first in the discus with a throw of 106 feet. Orville Reutter counted three points for his team by winning second in the mile, leading the third man in by several yards. The rest of our points were scored by L. Baylor who Won third place in the three jumps, bringing our total to 17 points. v IPAGE 1926 M1
