We vanquished our ancient rivals by a 24-12 score, which took all the joy from the county seat basketball fans. By defeating Donovan and Watseka we gained the fight to enter the finals. It was only in an overtime game that we were able to beat the hard fighting Sheldon team by a score of 18 to 15. After the game L. Baylor was presented with the trophy and the All-Star teams were announced. We placed three men on the first All-Star team, besides getting the sportsman- ship medal. DISTRICT TOURNAMENT When the drawings were received we were matched against the Kempton Five. By our fast offensive we were able to defeat them 29-5. They failed to register a single field basket against our guards. Our next game was with the Manteno outfit which had previously de- feated St. Anne and Donovan. We also Hnished this game with the long end of a 25-16 count. Our next game was considered by many to be the best game in the en- tire tournament. In it we defeated Kankakee by a count of 22 to 13, giving us the right to play in the finals. In the finals we were doped to win easily over Harvey, but the pace of the afternoon game had so sapped our strength that Harvey was able to come from behind to win in the second half, the score being 16-10. After the game the All-Star teams were announced. We placed two men on the first All-Star team. WESLEYAN TOURNAMENT Due to the splendid record made throughout the season, we were in- vited to compete in the annual basketball tournament at the Illinois Wes- leyan University. For our first game We drew the strong Odell five, who defeated us by a one point victory. Our dreams were made real in the County Tournament, but we failed in the District on the home stretch. We had all our regulars back from last year, and some subs who were mighty valuable men. We played 26 games during the season, of these 18 were victories. Included in these victories are the Iroquois County Championship and second place in the State High School District meet. L. Baylor was elected Captain for the season, and served in this posi- tion with the best of ability. He also held down the running guard job, playing a great defensive and offensive game. Although not scoring con- sistently he made several markers during the season. He received the medal for being the best sportsman during the County Tourney besides be- ing picked on the First All-County team. John Hurliman, held down the other guard position. He played con- sistently throughout the season saving several games through his superior guarding. He was chosen on the First All-District team and established himself as one of the best back guards in the state. Aquilla Yergler, our star forward was always there with the goods. Probably the hardest fighting, ,most consistent player on the team. Be- sides scoring heavily all season he played a wonderful defensive game. He also was chosen on the First All- County team. Paul Brenner, our other forward, was rated by many as the outstanding player of the season. Paul played more than any other man on the team. He fought until the finish and was always there in the oien- sive and defensive. To Paul goes the honor of winning several games including the one at Momence, when he defeated them nearly single handed, by his dribbling, passing and shooting. Wells Ryan, played a great defensive game throughout the season, besides doing his share on the offensive. He could always be depended upon to come through with a few markers in a hard game. He alternated at forward and center. , C. Baylor played center a large part of the season. His playing was erratic. The other players who worked so faithfully during the year, and whose efforts helped in developing the first team are as follows: W. Eberhart, forwardg L. Crum, center, Fry and Hamrick, guards. These men still have another year of competition. The County Tournament took place at Sheldon this year. We were lucky enough to draw a bye thus playing the winner of the Buckley- Donovan game. We played Donovan Friday afternoon. We easily defeated them by the large score of 29-17. Our second game of the tournament was with the highly touted 1926 IPAGE 581

Eloerhart, R. Schmidt, W. Eberhart. Our second team this year was almost on a par with the first. There were few second teams in this part of the state which were as good. They won nine games and lost one during the season. They shut out several teams and won easily over their opponents. They dropped the game with Watseka owing to the fact that several mem- bers of the second team were saved for the first team game. They scored shut-out victories over such fast teams as Rankin and Mil- ford, and also held them to one point each in the second encounter with them. Among others they toppled the fast Onarga Military crew twice in two games, with scores of 11-10 and 24-3 respectively. Crum starred in the last encounter, ringing up five baskets in the first half.
